About the Position
The Milken Scholars Program has an immediate opening for a Senior Associate. The Milken Scholars Program is a joint initiative of the Milken Institute and Milken Family Foundation, both philanthropic organizations based in Santa Monica, California.
The Senior Associate will be an integral part of a dynamic, fast-paced team and will report to
Evelyn Torres, Director, Milken Scholars.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance of program database, support in the collection of Scholar statistics, record keeping, and file maintenance.
- Planning/operations of all program events to include the Annual Summit, Tri-annual Alumni Symposium, Recognition Ceremonies, and Holiday Dinners.
- Research, communicate, and negotiate contracts for all off-site events.
- Travel to off-site program events, particularly in New York City and Washington D.C.
- Plan and travel to college campus visits across the country, twice a year. Serve as point of contact for Scholars currently enrolled in college. Provide appropriate and immediate advice for any personal, academic and professional situations.
- Outreach to Alumni Scholars and support in planning and hosting Alumni gatherings.
- Support and coordinate selection materials for yearly Scholar application process.
- Manage phone inquiries and communication.
- Close interaction via email, phone, and face-to-face with Milken Scholars, High School offices and counselors, Foundation and Institute personnel.
- Proof and prepare correspondence and mailings.
- Research information, as requested, including possible Program expansion
- Other roles and duties as determined by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors required. Graduate degree highly preferred in an education related field. Candidates with studies in psychology are also being considered.
- Experience: 3-6 years of continuous full-time work experience in office, nonprofit org, or related setting in the fields of scholarship management, student counseling, college access, admission & selection, graduate fellowships, youth development and event management.
Special skills required:
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks, work efficiently and calmly under pressure, meet deadlines, manipulate a constant flow of multiple tasks
- Advanced technology skills including CRM database maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint design, web research and updates
- Polished verbal and written communication skills
- Public speaking and relationship management
- Ability to both collaborate with a close-knit team dedicated to the goals of the programs and also work independently with minimum supervision. Candidate should be able to manage their own projects independently.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Santa Monica office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion.
This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
