Description

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the development of the financial statements that support the organization’s business objectives. This leadership role involves managing the financial operations, driving improvements in accounting and other financial processes, and providing financial guidance to senior management and other departments.

Department: Finance

Hours: Full-time 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday (non-exempt)

Location: Lifeworks Services – Richfield / 20% in-person

Compensation: $135,000 - $155,000 yearly

Bonus Eligible: Yes

Requirements

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, including all balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Supervise and oversee daily cash and debt operations, ensuring accurate documentation and the implementation of effective internal controls to safeguard cash assets.
  • Oversee the management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue cycle processes.
  • Continuously assess and improve accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Implement best practices and technological solutions to streamline accounting operations.
  • Regularly meet with profit/loss leaders to drive financial results, ensuring that accounting practices support the organization’s short- and long-term goals. Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including broader programs services, to support overall business objectives and resolve accounting issues.
  • Coordinate the development of the annual operating budget with the financial analyst and chief financial officer.
  • Establish, maintain, and regularly assess a system of internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data and protect the organization from material financial misstatements.
  • Manage external audits and work closely with auditors to ensure that the organization’s financial statements are accurate and compliant with applicable laws.
  • Provide financial analysis to senior management for decision-making purposes.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting teams by providing training, conducting performance evaluations, and supporting professional development initiatives.
  • Establish annual team objectives, develop key indicator reports, and set individual goals.
  • Offer continuous support to enhance team performance and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure the organization’s accounting practices comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Stay informed about current accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. Oversee tax filings and coordinate with external auditors as necessary.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification (Preferred).
  • At least 8-10 years of accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience leading teams.
  • Experience working within the healthcare industry (Preferred).
  • Nonprofit accounting experience (Preferred).
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and internal controls.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Aptitude to work independently with excellent time management skills.
  • Experience working effectively with others to reach common goals and objectives.
  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships.
  • Must pass a background study with the Department of Human Services, a drug test, and have reliable transportation.
