Summary

The Albuquerque Academy Human Resources Department is seeking an individual for the position of HR Benefits and Compensation Specialist. This position is responsible for coordinating and managing the employee compensation and benefits programs. Essential Functions

  • Administers employee insurance programs including life, disability, voluntary insurance plans, and health insurance plans, dental, vision.
  • Administers employee retirement plans that may include the company’s 403(b) plan 
  • Advises and informs employees of changes and developments related to benefits including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.
  • Researches and compares incentive compensation plans offered by demographically comparable organizations; assesses competitors plans and makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements required to keep the organizations plans competitive and effective.
  • Facilitates accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers.
  • Completes records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Conducts employee surveys, census, and other research and demographic efforts required to collect accurate quotes from benefit providers.
  • Participates, prepares and analyzes data for the annual benefits renewal process.
  • Monitors administrators and insurance carriers reports to ensure the organizations compliance with plan requirements.
  • Ensures the organizations and plans compliance with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
  • Maintains knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensuring the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in compensation and benefits administration.
  • Coordinates open enrollment, benefits fairs, wellness fairs, and onsite vendor visits.
  • Conducts monthly audits for benefits and communicates with the finance department.
  • Prepares faculty contracts, revisions and stipends while updating spreadsheets as necessary uploading them into ADP.
  • Maintains turnover data and communicates necessary onboarding/offboarding items to pertinent staff.
  • Tracks checks and other human resources department mail.
  • Responds to employee inquiries on a walk in basis or via email which may include policies, leave, benefits, compensation.
  • Runs and maintains reports from ADP as needed.
  • Conducts onboarding/offboarding meetings with employees.
  • Support the School and its mission, always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
  • Foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy. 
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and communicate and collaborate effectively across differences.

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend employee meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a field related to human resources or business.

Experience

  • 5 plus years of experience in benefits and compensation is preferred.
  • Previous experience with self-funded insurance is preferred. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently.
  • Ability to be organized, accurate, thorough, and to monitor work for quality.
  • Knowledge of database management systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word and Google Suite.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to problem solve, being able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Special Requirements

  • SHRM or HRCI certifications in human resources, benefits or compensation preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Working Environment

  • Majority of work is performed in an indoor office setting in the Administration Building.
  • Work hours are generally from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds with or without assistance
  • Prolonged sitting and computer work
  • Some walking or driving in a golf cart across campus
