The
Department of Family Medicine & Population Health is seeking an Hourly Research
Assistant in support of research activities under the supervision of faculty
members, Dr. Bernard Fuemmeler and Dr. Carrie Miller.
The
Fuemmeler Lab is engaged in public health and population health research
related to obesity, tobacco use, and cancer prevention and control. This
position will be primarily focused on existing projects involving recruiting
and contacting participants and general project tasks. Recruitment tasks
include going into selected communities to distribute flyers, speak with
residents, and recruit participants using safety procedures that are aligned
with current university guidelines. Phone and other data collection activities
may be conducted from the office and/or from your home. The position may also
involve work on other ongoing projects as needed.
Responsibilities
may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the coordination of research processes and documentation which may
include: filing, office organization, data entry, and mailings.

Recruiting and screening potential participants over phone, email, or Zoom.

Traveling to community locations in the participating communities and
neighborhoods to identify and recruit potential eligible participants.
- Provide administrative support to research activities which may include reviewing
research materials in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Meets with research team regularly to maintain ongoing communication
regarding the quality of the assistant's performance.

Performs other related duties as required.
The
hours that assessment staff work are varied, both in the total number of hours
per week and when they work
This is an hourly position with varied hours averaging from 10-20 hours per
week with a requirement to work occasional early evening and weekend hours.
Assessment staff
are working in some neighborhoods that experience higher levels of crime, and
safety is very important to us. While we cannot control some aspects of the
work, such as random violence, we strive to be proactive and provide as many
safeguards as possible to ensure your well-being on the job.

- Previous office work or research experience preferred
- Demonstrated

and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from
various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff
member at VCU
