- CERTIFICATION:
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or similar designation preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits and meetings required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in risk management, insurance administration, or claims handling.
- Experience in a K–12, public sector, or large-scale organizational environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance principles, risk management practices, and claims resolution processes.
- Ability to interpret insurance contracts, analyze coverage needs, and recommend appropriate risk transfer solutions.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of metrics to identify trends and develop preventive strategies.

- Assists in the administration of the district’s property and casualty insurance programs, including policy renewals, coverage reviews, cost analysis, and coordination with brokers, carriers, and other vendors.
- Supports cost control efforts and assists in managing claims from initial report through resolution.
- Participates in settlement negotiations and collaborates with legal counsel as directed.
- Coordinates and monitors investigations of bus and non-bus vehicle accidents, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to insurance carriers.
- Develops, coordinates, and delivers monthly and quarterly pre-loss, safety, and risk mitigation training for employees, supervisors, and school leaders to reduce workplace incidents and claims.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and training programs; recommends improvements to enhance safety culture and reduce exposure.
- Conducts facility safety and hazard inspections across the district; recommends and coordinates corrective actions to address risks.
- Analyzes loss and claims data to identify emerging risk trends, inform decision-making, and support operational improvements.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of risk management policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Provides guidance and technical expertise to school leaders and staff on risk mitigation best practices, claims processes, and incident response.
- Prepares reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership detailing risk exposure, claims trends, and mitigation efforts.
- Works cross-functionally with district departments and external partners to strengthen the district’s risk management programs.
- Completes additional tasks and projects as directed by the Director.
- Required to have prompt, regular, in-person attendance during normal business hours and as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Risk Management assists in the oversight, administration, and continuous improvement of Atlanta Public Schools’ property and casualty risk management programs. This role supports the Director in safeguarding district assets, reducing financial exposure, and promoting a proactive safety culture. Key responsibilities include managing insurance programs, supporting claims resolution, leading risk mitigation initiatives, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The manager also serves as a collaborative partner to schools, departments, and external vendors to ensure effective, consistent, and cost-conscious risk management practices across the district.
