The Opportunity: The Buyer will be responsible for building eCommerce assortment strategies for their area of business. In this role you will deliver sales and margin goals through effective inventory management, price negotiations, and marketing strategies. The candidate for this role thrives in a fast-paced environment, has strong financial skills, and the ability to manage the day-to-day business, while having a vision for the future.
What You Will Do:
- Maintain product assortment online, utilizing tools and resources for efficiency and SKU productivity
- Create assortment strategies that support demand & gross margin
- Protect key categories of business and reevaluate underperforming categories
- Forecast demand units for select brands, to ensure inventory availability
- Champion new initiatives and innovation on special projects as needed
- Build selling recaps and ad-hoc reporting to better read the business
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with Marketing, eCommerce, and Supply Chain Partner on site experience and merchandising, collaborate on promotional opportunities & key product destinations
- Optimize product pricing subject to company objectives such as demand, market share, profit margin & pricing optimization
- Identify and actively seek out vendors, brands, trends, products, and white space that represent our customers’ needs
- Build strong relationships with vendors, focusing on vendor management and development along with strategic negotiation of cost, program & inventory
The Experience You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Marketing, Business or general area of study OR 5+ years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 3+ years of Buying experience or relevant retail experience
- Strong financial acumen, with an understanding of merchandising KPIs
- Advance level computer skills with basic Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel as needed for trade shows and vendor/business meetings
- Critical thinking and negotiation skills a must
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
- Shows intellectual curiosity with the ability to adapt to change
- Learn new systems and embrace new analytics
Preferred Experience:
- Demonstrate experience using MS Excel, Access, and reporting tools/analysis such as Tableau, Domo, MS Power BI
- Buying experience within fashion accessories, jewelry, and personal care a plus
- Experience in eCommerce
- Proficient in retail math and analytics, product knowledge, forecast planning
