About the Role

As a Director of Manufacturing, you'll oversee manufacturing and scheduling operations with ownership of performance and achievement of targets, budgets, and KPIs. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on strong analytical and technical challenges while delivering fast, carefully thought-out results. You'll provide strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end with a focus on achieving metrics and improving UMC's manufacturing environment and scalability of operations. You'll work on developing new ideas, systems, and technology while analyzing and improving existing procedures, processes, and methods, staying aligned with our core values: Great People, Going Beyond, and Growing.


What You’ll Do

Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable

  • Provide clear direction and leadership while creating a work environment where people are fully engaged and highly accountable.
  • Work "on" the business by providing clear direction and taking time to think strategically.
  • Work "in" the business by creating clear expectations, communicating well, and ensuring things get done.

Manufacturing Strategy

  • Develop and execute manufacturing strategy that aligns with organizational business goals and objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks that could impact manufacturing projects or operations.
  • Participate actively in standardization of processes, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive best-in-class manufacturing capabilities, focusing on gaining efficiencies through optimizing product production, process flow, and automation.
  • Collaborate with leadership cross-functionally to ensure on-time production and delivery while maintaining targeted inventory levels.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

External Partnerships

  • Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and monitor supply chain performance.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, engineering or related field or work experience in place of education.
  • 10+ years supervisory/management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Progressive experience in precision manufacturing environment with equipment, materials, processes, and systems.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively, and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to build, empower, and motivate effective cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, business, and financial acumen.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively. 
  • Detail oriented with timely and effective decision making and follow through.
  • Use of metrics to support organizational objectives and goals.
  • Ability to foster organizational change in line with company vision.
  • Knowledge of working with ISO quality systems and World Class Manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Thorough understanding of best practices for a manufacturing environment.
