JOB PURPOSE
To provide high-level customer service to the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Midwestern) community while performing duties in cash handling, billing and collection, accounts payable, insurance, and accounting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Welcome customers, receive payments and donations, answer questions, and promote a client-centered atmosphere.
- Open and close the cashier window in accordance with the posted hours of operation.
- Accurately process, record, and deposit all cash receipts. Responsible for daily balancing cash on hand, ordering cash, and sending deposits to the bank. Safeguard money and checks in the office.
- Process electronic bank deposits and communicate with the bank when questions and issues arise. Prepare cash deposits. Responsible for remote deposits. Prepare and perform month-end closing procedures and balancing.
- Maintain and update Cashier procedures as needed.
- Distribute accounts payable checks held for pickup.
- Serve as liaison between Midwestern and insurance brokers.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and ensure compliance with the finance office's internal controls and procedures, especially the Cash Handling Policy and Document Retention and Destruction Policies.
- Assist in the implementation and testing of new or revised systems, procedures, and record-keeping.
- Complete additional projects or tasks as assigned, including serving as backup for other team members.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma required; College credits in business preferred.
- Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God.
- Customer service, cashiering, and accounting experience desired.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must display strong math and analytical skills.
- Computer aptitude, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Able to work independently as well as with a team.
- Positive attitude with a desire and willingness to serve and to learn.
- Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the department's benefit and to meet various deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Pass background screening and driving record.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Shift during hours Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm
- Shared office environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequently required to sit or stand for periods of time at desk or computer station
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Able lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
