This project is a collaboration with the Illinois Youth Center. NLC partners are located in the neighborhoods with the highest rates of violence, and are committed to hyper-local programming, restorative justice practices, trauma-informed approaches, and principles of nonviolence who provide programming in-facility or upon re-entry for participants. The Project Coordinator IYC operates as a part of, and oversees, an in-facility team that provides a variety of programming activities and services to the young people residing in St. Charles, Warrenville, and Chicago. The Project Coordinator will also guide the ongoing connection and partnership of RJ Hubs mentors/staff in their community when released. 


Position Summary 

The IYC Program Coordinator position is full-time, 40 hours per week (non-exempt, benefits available) and will take place at the IYC St. Charles, Warrenville, and Chicago locations. This person will perform key management tasks to coordinate several partners in the facilitation of in-facility programming, collection of data, communication of input and outputs through reports and narratives, management of budgets, and ongoing partner support/connection of young people post-release. The IYC Program Coordinator position will be on-site encouraging a restorative justice culture, provide support and advocacy for IYC staff and young people attending NLC coordinated programming, and meaningful mentoring interactions and services beyond their time in IYC. Requires some local travel and travel to and from facilities (reimbursable). Per Diem available for in-facility days. Pay commensurate with experience. This position is in-person. This project will begin December 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019. The project will continue as funding allows. 


Job Responsibilities 

  • Engages youth in-facility regularly to build meaningful relationships. 
  • Identifies and leads trainings and orientation needs of individuals providing in-facility services as well as NLC team. 
  • Assists in developing action plans to address training needs. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for partners, IYC staff and administration, and NLC administration. 
  • Communicates absences to Supervisor and assures appropriate coordination/timely documentation of trained substitutes.  
  • Oversees the timely implementation of scheduled activities.  
  • Helps team members problem-solve difficult situations and strategize about conflict mediations (provide needed guidance and follow-up). 
  • Works to build team morale and cohesiveness. 
  • Intentionally provides opportunities for IYC staff to engage in services offered to residents where appropriate. 
  • Manages the collection/communication/submission of data related items with team and partner agencies to NLC administration as identified. 
  • Will communicate with Director of Data and Research on all data needs, reports, submissions, etc. as necessary. 
  • Collects all required paperwork from partners on a timely basis. 
  • Performs regular weekly facility visits at the various locations to assure effective programming, communication, and overall restorative culture of programming sites. 
  • Works in office when not at facility or procuring supplies for program. 
  • Completes accuracy and timely submission of the IYC monthly report. 
  • Will manage all sign-in submission is accurate, complete, and timely. 
  • Attends all NLC mandatory meetings and any meetings relevant to the successful implementation and supervision of the program as determined (may include RJ Hubs, IYC staff, citywide tables, etc.). 
  • Meets regularly with the in-facility team to discuss progress, challenges, training needs, changes, logistics, etc. 
  • Documents detailed participant case-notes and other items as assigned when sessions are held with participants. 
  • Maintains accuracy of budget and spending plan for NLC staff and partners. Assures all necessary documentation is collected and submitted as requested. 
  • Supervision includes on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings. 
  • Manages a team of NLC staff that provide services such as mentoring, re-entry, etc. 
  • Assures effective connections and activities at the facility sites with NLC staff and participants. 
  • Seeks out new partners to provide services where there is opportunity to diversity programming. 
  • Participates in all required evaluations and audits. 
  • Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values. 
  • Attends required meetings and trainings. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. 


Skills & Qualifications 

  • Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided. 
  • Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases. 
  • Must pass required background check and orientation needs for IYC. 
  • Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check. 
  • Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check. 
  • Must have a working phone and phone number. 
  • One year experience working in the human services field in a capacity that involves direct services to at-risk youth. 
  • Cross-cultural competency. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Must be willing to be trained, and proficiently utilize database(s) and information tracking systems relevant to duties. 
  • Must keep confidentiality of participant information. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth. 
  • Desire and ability to maintain long-term relationships with others. 
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, good driving record, access to a vehicle. Subject to driving background check. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required. 
  • Experience with youth in the juvenile justice system preferred.
