The Internal Improvement Consultant works with Senior Improvement Consultants and the Director of Quality and Outcome Management (QOM) to facilitate system improvements throughout Shepherd Center and to assist in leading strategic initiatives. This role contributes to driving progress at Shepherd Center working across departments to improve areas as consulted upon.

The Internal Improvement Consultant performs various duties to best serve the needs of interdepartmental, cross functional, and organizational aspects within the Quality and Outcome Management department.

  • Assists in the development and employment of effective methods of data requests, data collection, process assessment and measurement, and data analysis to gauge effective needs of improvement efforts.

  • Involved in the promotion of organization transformation from current state to "high reliability" through the use of Continuous Quality Improvement tools/methods.

  • Works with Senior Improvement Consultants to apply Lean/Six Sigma strategies to analyze trends of performance throughout the organization for Clinical and Operational processes.

  • Assists the Director of Quality and Outcome Management and Senior Improvement Consultants to provide education to the team members on FOCUS/PDSA and works toward gaining commitment in the use of consensus decision making.

  • Facilitates and supports functions related to Performance Measurement and Improvement for Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Systems (CMS), for the Shepherd Center as well as other regulatory standards.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Public Health, Health Administration, Psychology, or related field/clinical degree - Master’s preferred

  • Knowledge of Quality Improvement Methodology in Healthcare

  • Skilled in: MS Office, Tableau, Statistical Software (SPSS, SAS, R) highly desired

  • Experience with Literature Reviews, Project Planning, Improvement Methodology, and Stakeholder Coaching

  • Ideal candidates would have at least a basic certificate in Quality Improvement from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) or similar

  • Experience with quality improvement publications in peer review journals preferred

  • Understanding of clinical settings ideally within neuromedicine or in rehabilitation ideal
