IT Assistant
Information Technology Department (ITD) – Washington State Bar Association (WSBA)

Salary Range: $58,581 to $58,581 + Washington State Employee Benefits and Retirement 
FLSA - Full-time, Non-Exempt

The WSBA's mission is to serve the public and the members of the Bar, to ensure the integrity of the legal profession, and to champion justice.

Purpose and Position Summary:

The IT Assistant is a member of the Network Operations Team and provides tier 1 onsite technical support for the WSBA (Washington State Bar Association) staff on IT supported computer hardware, software, printers, telephone, or audio/visual equipment. 

The IT Assistant will also perform daily monitoring and support tasks as assigned.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Network Operations Team to provide first-level on-site IT support to the organization including troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues for PCs, printers, and other tech equipment.
  • Troubleshoot issues that are related to WSBA computers and applications for resolution or to provide additional information to WSBA technical support team members (internal and external).
  • Configure, debug, and install Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, and Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Communicate technical issues and solutions to both WSBA staff and Help Desk.
  • Responsible for receiving, tracking, and decommissioning of IT supported desktop and laptop computers and peripheral devices. 
  • Maintains inventory of computer hardware and supplies.
  • Primary point of contact for staff computer equipment.   Distributes all equipment for new hires and collects equipment when staff leave.
  • Provides technical support for some events and meetings, support may include setup of computers, projectors, audio/video equipment, and video conferencing.  
  • Responsible for documenting processes, procedures, guidelines and instructions that relate to technical support processes.   
  • In conjunction with external support vendors, serve as a liaison to triage and escalate service requests to other team members or vendors as appropriate. 

Non-Technical Responsibilities:  

  • Serves as a building floor warden to help execute WSBA and building safety and security protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Required:

  • Two-year Degree in a technical field of study; transferable experience gained through employment may substitute for a degree.

Education Preferred:

  • NA

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Help Desk / Tech Support role, in lieu of a two-year technical degree.

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous experience in help desk operations or direct customer support of technical products or services.

Competencies (Skills/Abilities) Required:

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, and Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Know how to configure Windows, including how to fully install Windows systems.
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot issues for computers and windows operating system.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues and possible solutions to both staff and Help Desk.
  • Strong detail orientation, excellent customer service skills, good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to manage assigned tasks independently.
  • Can effectively cope with change and shift gears comfortably and is committed to their own personal and technical development. 
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them to business problems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining other standard office equipment (printer, scanner, fax. AV, phones, etc.)
  • Adept with the use of computer repair tools.
  • Solutions oriented and proactive
  • Highly diplomatic and patient

Working Conditions: 

The primary schedule for this position, unless otherwise requested and approved, is on-site at the WSBA office (Seattle, WA) Monday through Friday, and must be available no later than 8am to be able to provide support for staff and the organization. This position is deadline driven and may face stressful situations at times (i.e., when working a special event or when staff are impacted by a technology problem). Regular and reliable attendance is necessary and important. A set schedule for working onsite at the WSBA office is required. 

Employment with the Washington State Bar Association mandates that WSBA Staff must reside within the State of Washington at the time of hire, and during active employment status.

The essential functions of the job that must be performed, with or without a reasonable accommodation: This position must be able to regularly work five days per week in an office type environment (in office), possess the ability to sit/stand and use a computer. Ability to pick up and move a PC, printer, server or other equipment that may weigh up to 40 pounds. Ability to bend and work on knees under desks where computers may be connected to the network. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, and other standard office equipment (e.g., printer/scanner/fax/telephone). This position must be able to read, write, and speak with others in English.
