About the Department

Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, Contracts, Reprographics and Warehouse, and Senior Director of Student Nutrition plan, organize, coordinate, supervise and participate in the receipt, inspection, storage and issuance of school materials, furniture mail, supplies and equipment, and cafeteria supplies; schedule regular and special deliveries of supplies, equipment, food and other items to schools and District offices, sites, and other locations as needed; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
 

Position Duties

Plan, coordinate, supervise and participate in the receipt, inspection, storage and issuance of school materials, furniture, supplies and equipment, cafeteria & food supplies; assure timely receipt and distribution of warehouse and cafeteria stock. Supervise, coordinate and participate in District nutrition services warehouse operations including receiving, marking, storing and issuing of food, supplies and equipment
 
Inspect shipments of materials, equipment and supplies received to assure compliance with purchase order specifications; verify loads against bills of lading; identify, contact vendors and report shortages, damaged goods or other discrepancies.

Schedule and assign routine and special deliveries of supplies, materials, mail, food, equipment and furniture to various District locations and other locations as needed.

Communicate with vendors, District administrators and staff regarding warehouse operations, orders, back orders and related issues; receive requests, provide information and resolve issues, complaints and concerns related to orders.

Prepare, maintain and submit a variety of records, logs and reports related to the operation of the District warehouse; operate a computer and assigned software to input data and generate reports.
Coordinate and participate in the performance of periodic and annual physical inventories; conduct physical inventories; maintain inventory of warehouse equipment and supplies; submit requisitions for supplies as necessary.

Coordinate the storage functions of the warehouse; determine proper location of supplies to allow for maximum space utilization.
Supervise the inventory control and fixed asset tagging functions; assure proper control of related records; prepare reports.

Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; assist in the selection of new employees; recommend personnel and disciplinary action as necessary; establish warehouse operational procedures and assure compliance with established procedures.
 
Supervise the receiving, storage and delivery of food supplies for school cafeterias; maintain related records; supervise and conduct inventory and annual audit activities for food and supplies.
Direct salvage of damaged or used material, books, furniture and equipment; schedule the pick-up and delivery of tables, chairs and other equipment for special events and activities

Collect, inventory and develop agenda items for declaring district property as surplus or obsolete. To include process for discard or auction.
Participate in warehouse operations as necessary; pull merchandise and prepare pallets, stack materials, fill and distribute orders, work orders, food orders or other requests for materials; sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to a predetermined sequence; sort and store perishable goods in refrigerated rooms.
 
Inspect physical condition of warehouse and equipment and prepare work orders for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment.  
Oversee the maintenance of the food warehouse to assure clean, sanitary (based on California Department of Health regulations, orderly, safe and secure operation.

Operate a vehicle and a variety of food warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies; drive a vehicle to various sites as needed.

Deliver rush orders needed by a particular school to their facility, utilizing a company truck or van as required.

OTHER DUTIES:

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Logistics, Logistics Management, Business Administration or related field is required.

Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in the receipt, storage and issuance of supplies and equipment and in the operation of delivery vehicles in the logistics/warehouse industry. Four of these years should include supervisory-level responsibility for the operation of the District Warehouse.
 
LICENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
Valid California, Class C, driver's license.
Forklift Operator’s Certification.
ServeSafe Manager Certificate (Preferred)-Must obtain certificate within first 6 months.

Desirable Qualifications: Organization and attention to detail are absolutely required. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Can work well with others and independently when necessary. Must be punctual, reliable, trustworthy, and ethical.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Work will vary significantly and require the interpretation and application of procedures, policies, and practices within the organization.  Work will require the ability to think analytically, problem solve and make decisions in the best interest of the District.
