JOB TITLE: FITNESS ATTENDANT CLOSING SHIFT/WEEKEND SHIFT - RECREATION DEPARTMENT
CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT
SUPERVISOR: HEALTH & FITNESS MANAGER
HOURS: SHIFTS ARE SCHEUDLED DURING FITNESS CENTER HOURS
SATURDAY: 12:00 – 4:00 PM OR SUNDAY 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM AND MONDAY 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM AND FRIDAY 3:00 PMs – 8:00 PM
EMPLOYMENT GRADE: 3 OR 4 BASED ON HOURS
PAY RANGE: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fitness Attendant is a part-time, exempt position, under the direct supervision of the Health and Fitness Manager. The Fitness Attendant is responsible for the supervision of the Fitness Center members using the strength and aerobic equipment. The Fitness Attendant needs to provide encouragement and a positive attitude towards participants as they progress in their exercise program. The Fitness Attendant needs to be flexible and be able to execute various tasks simultaneously in the Fitness Center.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous fitness experience is preferred
- Must be trained in the proper use of all Barrington Park District strength and aerobic equipment in the Fitness Center
Current Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED certifications within 3 months of hire
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet members as they enter the Fitness Center
- Check members into the Fitness Center and classes
- Make regular rounds of the Fitness Floor, locker rooms and studios to check for trash and anything out of order
- Supervise Fitness Center members on the use of the strength and aerobic equipment
- Conduct fitness center tours for new members and explain and demonstrate basic equipment usage
- Provide information for potential new members and complete the registration process
- Follow laundry service procedures
- Complete the assigned equipment cleaning and maintenance checklist procedures during every shift
- Maintenance checks include squatting, kneeling, bending and reaching in order to access hard to reach places
- Maintain a neat and orderly facility
- Assist Personal Trainers if help is needed with RecTrac or in an emergency
- Perform any other duties, as assigned by Health and Fitness Manager
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings
- Safely manage the second floor while programs are in session including, dance, fitness, jazzercise and poms classes
- Enforce expected Fitness Center etiquette and behavior with patrons
- Maintain and reference the necessary forms and schedules, including daily events on the Fitness calendar, daily traffic reports, class rosters and group fitness schedule
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
- Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
- Respond to first aid or medical emergencies and situations
- Attend professional, educational and safety trainings
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
- Correct unsafe conditions and report them to supervisor
- Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
- Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forward them to supervisor
- Wear a Barrington Park District ID at all times
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to sit, talk, see and hear
- Frequently required to use hands to handle equipment
- Occasionally required to stand, squat, bend over, walk and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and over 30 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- The employee must have the ability to spend 60% of work time at computer terminal

- May be exposed to chemicals and cleaning materials
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Indoor environmental conditions will include lighting, temperature and loud noises
