As a Field Inspector I, you will have direct responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and will ensure compliance with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan.

- Assists and monitors on-site construction activities, and verifies the quality of materials, workmanship, and products being provided and installed in accordance with the approved construction contract documents.
- Prepare, submit, and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used, and conditions at the job site.
- Conduct inspections and site observations as required to document the quality of work being installed.
- Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
- Updates contract documents with redlines as minor changes are being made in the field.
- Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans. Recommends corrective/preventive action and implements the necessary action plan to correct deficiencies.
- Accurately verify quantities for progress payments to ensure that completed work meets contractual obligations and project timelines.
- Report any safety concerns or deviations from the project schedule to the Project Safety Engineer and the Resident Engineer, enabling timely resolutions and maintaining project integrity.
- Experience in inspecting roadway construction and public utility relocation (Summerhill BRT Project).
- Experience in inspecting electrical distribution, equipment installation, and testing (Automatic Fare Collection 2.0 Project).
- Familiarity with building codes as required by the client.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Associate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline. Work experience may substitute for preferred education based on the specific job requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working on construction, remodeling, retrofitting, rail or mass transit projects or projects within the general infrastructure environment such as track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.
- Ability to read and understand contract specifications and drawings.
- Must have knowledge and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology specifically related to the mass transit and rail industry.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License required
- OSHA 30 Certification and Safety Compliance Certifications are preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Required to walk or stand for various hours per shift.
- Required to walk in rugged conditions
- Climbs ladders onto a roof 50 feet high or more, or climb down a manhole as required.
- Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves equipment weighing 50 pounds or up to 125 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
