About the Department

The MPRB is seeking an IT Support Technician for Recreation and Programming Facilities to support and maintain the organization's computer systems, desktops, software, and peripherals related to the MPRB creative technology initiatives in Recreation as well as supporting the recreation facilities and Spark'd Studios citywide. This individual will also participate in the IT Resource Center Helpdesk responsibilities to provide tier one support and maintenance to the organization’s computer systems, desktops, laptops, software, mobile devices, and peripherals. This is a second-shift position with normal hours of 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and may include weekends.

Position Duties

  • Work to ensure that creative technology, including public access kiosks, Chromebooks, and audiovisual tools, meets the needs and programming requirements of the organization.   Perform tasks system-wide with a special focus on Recreation, Visitor Services, nature centers, and Spark'd Studios.
  • Provide Help Desk services to the Recreation, Visitor Services, Aquatics, Golf, and Nature Centers during their program hours and system-wide after standard business hours.  Regularly travel to and from different facilities and Park sites.  Staff and support Board meetings, and support Park Police requests.
  • Handle sensitive information that may include CJIS, PII, and HRI and support law enforcement systems.
  • Diligently perform remote analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop PC, phone, and other technology issues for MPRB. Recommend and implement corrective solutions including onsite repair as needed.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot related ancillary hardware and software to deliver required service levels.
  • Proactively identify and use appropriate materials, methods, and resources to complete work assignments and to cost-effectively maintain and manage inventories of materials and supplies.
  • Working with the IT Support Services Manager, oversee technology solutions and troubleshooting for Recreation, Visitor Services, Aquatics, Golf, and Nature Center programming.  Accurately assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to systems, printers, and other technology in use.
  • Act as a liaison between the IT Department and the Youth Technology and Career Skills Program Manager as well as other Recreation, Environmental Stewardship, and Deputy Superintendent Divisions’ staff for technology needs and issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Need to Have: 

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university with a focus on information technology or a related field
  • Experience providing end user support in a Microsoft Windows desktop and networking environment: One (1) year
  • An equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training may be considered
  • Must meet Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security requirements including background check
  • Valid driver's license without ignition interlock and safe driving record
Nice to Have: 
  • Microsoft Certified Professional designation (preferred)
  • CompTIA A+ Certification and/or CompTIA Network+ Certification (preferred)

Skills Crucial to Success in This Role:
  • Excellent technical knowledge of PC and Apple desktop hardware, including workstations, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, network devices and wireless hardware.
  • Expert knowledge of current Microsoft and Apple desktop operating systems.
  • Expert knowledge of standard business application support including Microsoft Office.
  • Diagnostic utilities including anti-virus, anti-malware, and more.
  • Technical knowledge of computer internal components and peripherals.
  • Hands-on technical troubleshooting experience.
  • Extensive equipment support experience with configuring mobile devices, updating firmware, replacing internal computer hardware and updating drivers.
  • Working technical knowledge of current technology protocols and standards including TCP/IP, SNMP, DHCP, DNS, and network firewalls.
  • Industry best practices and technology for working in networked environments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills with a diverse customer base.
  • Perform work in a normal office environment; including an alternate work schedule working when recreation and programming facilities and  Spark'd Studios are open, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Selection Process:

  • We conduct a structured panel interview (oral exam) (70%).
  • We calculate your civil service score based on the above components and place you on the eligible list if all testing components are passed (passing score for each component and as an overall score is 70.00 or above).  Eligible list will expire in three (3) months.
  • We refer the top finalists to the hiring manager for an interview.
  • References, including verification of employment and work performance, may be considered. 
  • We conduct a background check.  Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought.
