About The Role

The Lead Trainer works, as delegated by management, to ensure the successful completion of training activities for all Research Associates in Scientific Services in compliance with GLP standards. Assists Training Specialist in training planning, scheduling, coordination, and document management. May provide support for Study Supervisor(s) and Study Director(s) by performing and assisting with sample and data collection on research studies.

What You'll Do Here

  • Conduct training activities for the Scientific Services group to assure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.
  • Provide hands-on training of staff including, but not limited to: clinical observations, food consumptions, body weights, urine collection, administering anesthesia, blood draws (all routes), dose administration (all routes), euthanasia, catheter placement, restraint, enrichment, feeding, and food removal on laboratory animals.
  • Perform uniform training and assessment across all staff in training.
  • Possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills; must be a role model for accurate documentation; mentors new staff; and demonstrates pride in their role.
  • Utilize position in the department to foster positive work ethics, teamwork and quality, re-constructible data collection in new and current staff.
  • Perform and train others in proper documentation of training procedures and data acquisition in an effort to accurately document compliance with plans, SOPs and protocols while facilitating the efforts of the study supervisors and/or department management.
  • Review and may revise SOPs and lesson plans to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Work with all groups to improve processes.
  • Perform timely review and assembly of training documentation.
  • Carry out training duties, as assigned, to meet training objectives set by Department Management.
  • Communicate progress towards training deadlines to Training Specialist and Department Management.
  • Follow written and verbal instruction: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Protocols, Daily Schedules, etc.
  • Handle and restrain appropriate laboratory animals based on site specifications
  • Perform QC review of data in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and report changes in animal behavior or health and problems with animal room.
  • Monitor and maintain animals and facilities in accordance to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain general organization and cleanliness of work area, including; cleaning and disinfecting procedure rooms and preparation areas.
  • Work with different departments to help ensure consistency of training practices and organization.
  • Support and participate on safety study procedures if necessitated by workload.
  • Create, review, and revise SOPs relating to animals, technical procedures, and facility issues
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • High School Diploma and/or GED required; BS/BA in a scientific discipline preferred.
  • At least 2 years' experience working as a trainer required; 3 years' experience working in a research and/or regulated environment preferred.
  • Experience leading and performing in-life research studies in various laboratory species based on site specifications.
  • LAT certification preferred.
  • Competency with database, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Able to adapt easily to new software programs.
  • The language skills required include, but are not limited to: the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, software manuals, study documents, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and utilize appropriate mathematical concepts for calculating and interpreting scientific data.
  • Continual GLP training and training on applicable procedures and SOPs within the department.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and have the ability to work cross functionally on process improvements.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple and changing priorities along with fluctuations in the workload, and readily adapts to new projects.
  • Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.
  • Be comfortable communicating with all levels of management and employees. Able to identify and resolve problems as they are encountered.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

The pay range estimated for this position is $22.17 - $29.56 (per hour rates or annually). Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
