Purpose
The Intern will typically support one or more experienced engineers in the performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and may have unique assignments that support larger projects. The Internship normally does not exceed a period of 90-days.
Functions
This position offers a variety of opportunities which may include basic engineering tasks related to design, analysis, test, integration, and systems engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
- May provide support and assistance in the development, preparation, and/or review of engineering plans and designs for structures and/or systems.
- May provide support and assistance in performing detailed calculations to facilitate the manufacturing and construction of marine vessels.
- May provide support and assistance in the review of documents, diagrams, and analyses.
- May provide support and assistance to project objectives and schedules.
- May provide support and assistance with construction planning support activities.
- Assist in obtaining and reviewing information and approvals for the processing of drawings and related data.
- Assist in reviewing technical purchase specifications.
- Assist in creating detailed schedules and tracking matrices to support contract milestones,
- Assist in providing metrics and tracking support on design contract deliverable submissions.
- Assist in providing plans of action and deficiency reports for contract deliverable reviews to support the project objectives and schedules
- Perform other duties as instructed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship
This position will report to the Eng. Manager or Deputy Operations Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills: Intermediate-level Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD. Ability to apply basic engineering knowledge, principles, and techniques to assigned tasks. Ability to apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; to use engineering equipment and tools, including computer applications; to make, read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Required
Must have accurate written and verbal communication skills to carry out and understand assignments, and/or convey or exchange routine information.
Desired
Ability to rapidly obtain, sort, filter, and analyze large volumes of data. Intermediate-level Microsoft Office applications such as Access and Project. Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional documents, Company policies/procedures, and governmental regulations.
Education/Experience: Completion of two or more years in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering program with projected graduation with a bachelor’s degree within 18 months of entering the Intern position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
