Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Shelter Operations and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Shelter Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the shelter program, including shelter maintenance. The Shelter Manager is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the shelter. The position provides a professional presence, ensuring that all operations tasks are completed in a manner that is consistent with MOC’s standards of practice.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Cultivating and elevating relationships with partner agencies, vendors, thought partners and community resources; participate in community meetings, events and activities as needed 
  • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize synergies among program areas
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
  • Lead a collaborative environment set with clear, outcome-driven expectations with proactive communication 
  • Work with staff to achieve key performance indicators across all program areas to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees 
  • Maintain a sense of accountability among team members by driving individual and organization performance standards
  • Engaging in both strategic activities as well as taking a hands-on role regarding program execution and administrative issues
  • Assists with the development, implementation and analysis of the department's outcome measures and data collection processes
  • Makes certain that all client files and documentation of services are maintained according to quality assurance, grant reporting, and auditing standards 
  • Monitors the health, safety and welfare of clients and department personnel by making certain that program service philosophy, policies, and procedures are followed appropriately
  • The Shelter Manager provides regular and on-going direct supervision to employees who provide direct services within the department, including delegating tasks, following up on completion of tasks, coaching, and evaluating performance 
  • Provide weekly updates to the Director of Shelter Services regarding census data, personnel concerns, or any other relevant issues or concerns that may impact the efficient and effective services to clients
  • As a member of the Management Team, participate in regular leadership meetings, establish, and ensure compliance and quality assurance with operating policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates success in developing and evaluating program models and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs 
  • Other duties as assigned by the MOC leadership team

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5-8 years of experience or comparable combination of education and experience
  • Preferred knowledge of EOHLC Uniform Shelter Rules & Systems 
  • Excellent people skills, specifically customer service skills and a capacity for collaboration and interpersonal relationships 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to express technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of software programs specifically, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with ETO programming 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse community and organizational groups
  • Ability to follow shelter guidelines on safety, handling emergencies, etc. 
  • Well-developed assessment skills and crisis management responses
  • Experience in shelter, housing, housing stabilization, clinical service, trauma-informed care 
  • Experience developing culturally and linguistically diverse programs for individuals and families from diverse socio-economic, racial, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds
  • Prominent commitment to DEI and ability to lead the cultural competency dialogue and planning over the long term in a sustainable manner
  • Adaptable in the face of conflict with multiple and changing priorities

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move throughout the facility to conduct regular rounds and room checks, including at locations with stair-only access
  • Must be able to ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs regularly
  • Ability to move safely throughout worksites for extended periods of time during a shift
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed to perform room inspections, support shelter operations, and respond to client needs
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds 
  • Must be able to perform tasks that involve physical movement, such as setting up rooms, moving light furniture, or supporting emergency protocols
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor client activity and ensure a safe shelter environment
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergencies, including the ability to move swiftly throughout the building

Compensation:

A salary within the range of $62,900 to $85,100 annually will be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with the MOC compensation philosophy.
