Summary/Objective:
The General Manager will manage, direct, and implement strategies and objectives of the assigned region to ensure the achievement of Regional and company goals.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee all ready-mix concrete plant operations within the area. Plan, organize, direct and control activities for ready mix concrete production, dispatch and sales.
- Supervise and direct the Sales and Operational management of area
- Coordinate and collaborate strategies and efficiencies of the assigned region with the Aggregate Division and Joint Venture partnerships. This position is a key member of the Divisional Management Team.
- Hire, train, develop, and motivate employees toward accomplishing company goals and objectives; perform performance appraisals as required; respond in a timely manner to employee concerns and/or complaints; and keep personnel records accurate and current.
- Ensure that all vehicles and equipment continually remain in safe and efficient operating conditions, as well as kept in a clean, presentable condition.
- Maintain and review periodic records of:
- Daily driver and plant personnel times
- Monthly fuel consumption reports
- Monthly scale certificates
- Daily review of plant inventories
- Daily review of plants and trucks pre-post trips
- Management of Sales and Dispatch in servicing customers by addressing specific problems, providing advice and assistance to customers as needed, and responding to complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
- Support and enforce all company safety programs. Cooperate with the company Safety Manager and continually ensure that all company operations and activities are performed in a consistently safe manner.
- Ensure that all company operations are in strict compliance with county, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the environment.
- Adhere to all Federal Motor Carrier safety regulations and ensure that all company operations are in compliance with all related state and federal regulations.
- Prepare operation budgets and forecasts and calculate indirect maintenance costs for the company, in addition to implementing procedures to ensure effective control over all costs within the division.
- Respond in a timely and courteous manner to all concerns and complaints from residents living near company operations.
- Cooperate with the Human Resources Department in the implementation of all company policies and procedures.
- Participate in public relations with customers, organizations, and business contacts related to the industry as necessary.
- Educate oneself continually and remain current on industry and training issues by benchmarking regularly with other companies and communicating regularly with the Training Department and other members of the industry involved with process improvement and training.
- Strengthen and maintain a high morale and team concept throughout the company through implementation and utilization of sound leadership and management principles, in addition to promoting and employing total quality principles to achieve a more efficient and quality workplace.
- Other duties as assigned.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assist as needed in accident investigations.
- Assist as needed with the coordination and clean-up of concrete and material spills.
- Volunteer and participate in company events.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Work Environment:
- Work time will be split between indoors/office and outdoors/field.
- Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells in the field.
- Exposure to chemicals such as concrete, chemical admixtures, truck cleaner, grease and oil.
- Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level will be moderate.
Physical Demands:
- Lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs., and pinch/grip approximately 25 lbs.
- Reach overhead and reach away from the body.
- Sit 6 hours per day, stand 2 hours per day, and walk the other 2 hours per day.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- 5 years’ experience in the concrete industry.
- Prior managerial or supervisory experience.
Special Skills:
- Written communication, verbal communication, and advanced mathematical skills.
- Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to use the company dispatching system and CRM (customer relationship management).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
- Must have proven effective leadership, training, and motivation skills.
- Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to see the big picture.
- Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- State Certified Concrete Technician (within 1 year of holding position).
- NRMCA Concrete Plant Manager Certification (preferred).
- CPR/First Aid.
Industry Related Experience or Skills:
- Working knowledge of all county, state and federal regulations pertaining to health, safety and the environment.
- A thorough understanding of both the operation and maintenance of ready mix concrete plants and equipment.
Education Required: High School
Preferred Education: College/Undergraduate
