The Mine Trainer is responsible for training new and existing employees in the Mine Operations department, with an emphasis on technical training for Miners, and participates in the development of SOP’s for the mine department.
Essential duties include the following.
• Participate in the development, administration, and maintenance of Mine Operations training plans and programs.
• Perform classroom and on-the-job training for Mine Operations employees, and other site department employees as needed.
• Train on the mining and full backfill cycle, including drilling, bolting, and timbering/sandfill.
• Train on bolting, including the Ground Control Mangement Plan and understanding the rock formation; reading ground understanding how to interpret faults/wedges and knowing how to bolt each according to the GCMP; operating the bolters for reliability; and operating both Jackleg and Mechanized bolters Epiroc/Sandvik equipment.
• Train on drilling development/I drift rounds: Jumbo drilling requires careful planning to ensure holes are designed and laid out parallel to ensure clean square faces for the next round; using basic geometry skills to line out the round and ensuring booms and parallex are set so that the holes maintain orientation to the back of design; utilizing blasting knowledge to time the rounds accordingly ensuring proper delays between holes to ensure round pulls to design depth; knowing how to follow geology guidance to stay on the ore vein; and following engineered plans grade lines/laser and design maps.
• Create training outlines and materials as needed.
• Perform underground training for new hires.
• Track equipment training for existing miners, including completed training, re-training if expired, new equipment task training, and equipment usage observations.
• Audit existing training paperwork and in the field practices to verify compliance.
• Complete training for tasks as identified in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Standards, and/or Policies.
• Audit processes, training and SOP’s for effectiveness.
• Participate in the development/revision of existing SOP’s, Standards, and/or Policies following the Management of Change (MOC) process.
• Perform risk assessments in preparation for writing or revising SOP’s, Standards, and/or Policies.
• Complete all paperwork involved in training, including sign-in sheets and time spent training, verifying all documents are correct, updating training matrix.
• Review and audit paperwork completed by hourly task and equipment trainers for compliance with regulations.
• Complete 5000-23s for final evaluation.
• Perform underground escapeway tours for new mine department employees.
• Schedule retraining using training matrix.
• Follow up on task training request form and schedule.
• Assist with Annual Refresher Training, including development of training criteria and delivering training.
• Work and communicate with other members of the team.
• Ensure hourly trainers perform consistent training for all tasks and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate or equivalent.
5 years’ minimum underground experience, including mining.
Prior training experience preferred.
MSHA blue card certification preferred.
Demonstrated safety leadership.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
