About the Department
Position Duties
- Assign, oversee, and direct maintenance/ work crew activities.
- Oversee track defect documentation.
- Perform inspections of work sites
- Remain current with MBTA's Safety Plan as well as outlined responsibilities.
- Ensure assignments were constructed safely and according to established schedules and standards.
- Enforce Authority's safety standards to ensure safety of workers and customers.
- Ensure inventory levels, equipment, and facilities are protected in safe operating conditions.
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and work is performed in timely and cost-effective manners.
- Assume supervisor responsibilities as needed.
- Document, maintain, and prepare maintenance and personnel records on manual and computerized tracking systems (and provide technical instruction when necessary)
- Drive company or personal vehicle to work sites and/ or transport crews or equipment as needed.
- Respond to customer, vendor, and co-worker inquires in professional and courteous manners.
- Assist in workforce management as needed.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

- Available to work all shifts and locations as assigned or directed.
- Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
- Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
- Three (3) years of experience in rail / track repair, maintenance, and construction
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement as required
Candidates will have one year from the date of their promotion to obtain a valid Class B Massachusetts CDL permit with Air Brake endorsement - Effective organizational, analytical, multitasking, time management, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, or database applications.
- Excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and communication skills
- Ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences.
- Ability to comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
- Ability to supervise or work effectively with diverse workforce.
- Ability to adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the MBTA including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.
- Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.
- Ability to work all shifts and/ or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit/ operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
