Job Summary:
The Sports Medicine Aide is an entry-level, hands-on support position ideal for individuals with an undergraduate degree in a health sciences-related field who are pursuing a future career in athletic training, physical therapy, or a related healthcare profession. This role is not a certified athletic trainer position, but rather a supporting role within a sports medicine environment.
The Sports Medicine Aide will play a vital part in assisting with the day-to-day operations of the athletic training clinic, supporting licensed athletic trainers (ATCs), maintaining clinic organization, and overseeing work-study students.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor hot and cold tubs.
- Clean and prepare coolers and water bottles as needed.
- Assist patients with stretching and rehabilitation exercises as prescribed by an ATC.
- Stock and organize athletic training kits; manage supply inventory.
- Support the daily cleaning and sanitization of the athletic training clinic.
- Provide patients with heat or ice packs as prescribed by an ATC.
- Assist with general administrative tasks and paperwork management.
- Support supervision of student workers.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong Communication, organization, administrative, and teamwork skills.
- Experience with Electronic Medical/Health Record Systems.
- Proficiency in computer skills and experience with the Google Platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Interest in pursuing a career in athletic training, physical therapy, or sports medicine preferred.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Required. Must have and maintain a current CPR certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision of Work Student and Local Athletic Education Program Student
Physical Requirements:
This position will require the employee to meet the physical, health, and emotional stability standards of the position. It will also require prolonged periods of standing, working on nights, weekends, and holidays. Attendance at assigned sporting competitions is required, as well as meeting the required coverage policies for the assigned sports for practices as determined by the NCAA and EMU Athletics. The employee must be able to have a flexible and variable schedule depending on the demands of the position. It will also require carrying, pulling, pushing, repetitive movements, bending, and occasional travel to other campuses and events.
