SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE: The position is responsible for participating in any or all aspects for revenue cycle management of patient services including, but not limited to, the responsibility for verifying insurance benefits, working pre-authorizations, patient out of pocket quotes, and advising patient, by phone or face-to face, in financial aspects by performing the following duties. Position is required to work any shift and travel between sites as necessary.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Obtains procedure pre-authorization for patients by verifying insurance coverage and benefits with third-party payers; obtains procedure prepayment when required; assists and advises the patient in obtaining alternative financial sources to finance their obligations; coordinates with physician and clinical staff. 
  2. Works any claim denials associated with the PFC team as needed to assist with getting the claim paid. 
  3. Verify appointment schedules for overdue patient accounts status (patient or outstanding insurance balances). Communicate with registration and other departments as necessary for collections. Facilitate payment plans for overdue balances through direct patient contact.
  4. Provides face-to-face financial counseling to any patient. Interacts with patients daily to include answering multi-line phone or direct patient contact. 
  5. Research patients' questions about accounts. 
  6. Investigates procedure codes for benefit coverage in which insurance companies disallow reimbursement; corresponds with third-party insurance companies and recommends appropriate reimbursement levels.
  7. Contacts and arranges payment plans for overdue balances through direct patient contact. 

Requirements

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Two (2) years medical office or registration experience. 
  • Working knowledge of insurance verification and referral processes. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Physician Practice Management, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree
