Digital Publications Specialist supports the digital publications team in day-to-day operations of the Blood journals websites and digital publications newsletters; coordinates with Editorial, Production, Marketing and ASH Communications teams to maintain accurate and consistent messaging and formatting across platforms; preforms quality control of digital publication content, metadata, and graphics; ensures all ASH branding guidelines are adhered to on the publications department websites;
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the day-to-day operations of digital publications, and digital newsletter program
- Assist the Digital Publications team with new content development for the Blood journals websites e.g., creating self-serve pages, maintaining self-service pages, and updating graphics, etc in HTML and CSS.
- Perform daily maintenance and updates on Blood journals websites to ensure accuracy and relevancy of information as needed e.g., updating author/style guide and editorial pages, updating content for new journal issues.
- Support the Manager, Digital Publications with managing the digital publications newsletter program to ensure timely and accurate distribution of ‘This Week in Blood’, ‘Advance Notice’, ‘Blood Advances Highlights’, and the ‘On Point’ series along with other digital newsletters served through Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Update platform “Alerts” with relevant content and announcements for the Blood Journals portfolio.
- Maintains knowledge of digital features among competing publications and provides proposals for new projects and feature updates for the Blood Journals portfolio.
Create and manage digital content for use on publication websites and in marketing material
- Create digital assets including hero images, article type (vector) icons, branded elements, and other imagery for publication websites.
- Manage digital asset library in SharePoint, consisting of journal logos, vector icons, website banners, house ads, newsletter imagery, multimedia, and other internal digital assets.
Review and maintenance of digital content
- Perform regular quality control assessments of website functions to identify bugs, potential areas of improvement, and user behavior.
- Notify and coordinate with the digital platform vendor, digital file provider, and internal ASH staff to correct errors discovered in digital content.
- Ensure that all digital elements are current and consistent, trademarks are properly labeled, and ASH Branding Guidelines are followed on publication websites.
- Provide the Manager, Digital Publications, with recommendations for enhancing the user experience on journal websites.
Additional Publications Department support roles
- Interface with third-party vendors to plan and implement enhancements to the platform and digital projects.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in science or humanities, preferably with background in web development and administration.
- Expert-level practical knowledge of office software, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- In-depth understanding of online/Web journal hosting platforms. Intermediate-level practical knowledge of web development languages, especially HTML and CSS.
- Minimum 3 years providing technical support or management in a digital-driven publication environment with experience in digital production.
- Proven attention to detail, excellent writing skills, ability to work under deadlines, and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work constructively with scientific/medical researchers, editors, authors, and reviewers.

- Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
- Requires the ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
- May require periodic out-of-town travel.
