About the Department

Do you have a creative passion for crafting multimedia content and community engagement? Hennepin Health is seeking a student to participate in a part-time internship with the marketing, communications, and outreach (MCO) team as a Communications and Outreach intern. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience with event planning, community outreach, social media, website updates, and other communications.

Location and hours: 
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Health Services Building located at 525 Portland Avenue South, in downtown Minneapolis, and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4:30 pm. This position will also require travel to represent Hennepin Health at community outreach events throughout Hennepin County. This internship will start in September 2025 and will last up to December 2026. This intern will work approximately 25 hours/week. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Note: You must attach a resume, one multimedia content sample and one writing sample with your application materials to be considered for this position. Candidates may submit samples produced for another internship, student news outlet or class. 

In this position, you will:  

  • Create content for social media channels, ensuring the appropriate review process is followed
  • Assist the community outreach coordinator with planning and attending community events to help people learn about health insurance and other health resources
  • Work with senior communicators to plan and execute other tactics such as creating and publishing internal and external web e-newsletter content
  • Update web content so it meets Hennepin Health member needs and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with meeting coordination in partnership with project managers
  • Assist in the review and publication of Hennepin Health reports and trainings

 
Need to have:
  • Enrollment for the academic school year of 2025-2026 in an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree program in public health, communications, journalism, marketing, or another related field
  • Ability to write at an intermediate level
  • Be familiar with or willing to learn Microsoft Office 365 suite of products, editing and project management software, as needed
  • Access to consistent and reliable transportation
  • Access to reliable internet connection and self-supported hybrid office space

Nice to have: 
  • Experience with:
    • Social media marketing
    • Corporate or organizational communications
    • Event planning
    • Project management
    • Photo or video editing
    • Working at a college or university news organization or had a previous internship in multimedia content production, or strategic communication
  • Ability to:
    • Be familiar with fast-paced environments
    • Be adaptable to handle multiple simultaneous tasks, and working with the supervisor to set priorities to meet deadlines with supervisor's help
    • Take initiative in solving problems and use sound judgment when approaching problems
Candidates with fluency in another language in addition to English are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
