As a Manager, Quality Engineering you will lead quality strategy and execution across engineering initiatives, managing and mentoring a team of hands-on SDETs. You'll drive scalable, reliable QA practices, balancing automation, performance, security, and manual testing.
This role demands strong technical leadership, people management, and collaboration with product and DevOps teams. You will define and track quality KPIs, align QA with business goals, and lead innovation in tooling, frameworks, and test strategy, while remaining hands-on as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Governance
- Define the overall QA strategy, roadmap, and quality metrics across projects.
- Establish test plans and coverage targets for unit, integration, regression, UI, API, performance, and security testing.
- Evaluate and recommend modern test tools, frameworks, and technologies.
- Set up governance practices to ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, and defects.
- Leadership & People Management
- Manage a team of SDETs, providing regular mentorship and career development support.
- Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews for QA team members.
- Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product, development, and DevOps teams to integrate quality early in the SDLC.
- Represent QA in architecture, design, planning, and release discussions.
- Ensure alignment of QA goals with sprint goals in an Agile development environment.
- Technical Oversight
- Guide development of scalable and reusable test automation frameworks.
- Promote best practices in performance, accessibility, and security testing.
- Drive CI/CD integration for automated testing pipelines.
- Lead technical discussions on API testing, mocking/stubbing, and service interaction coverage.
- Quality Engineering & Delivery Excellence
- Ensure full test lifecycle management: planning, design, execution, defect triage, reporting.
- Validate production readiness through post-deployment checks and observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog).
- Analyze production issues and contribute to root cause investigations.
Knowledge, Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 8+ years in QA engineering, including 2+ years in a QA leadership/management role
- Hands-on experience with cloud services, preferably AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway)
- Strong background in REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture
- Proficient in CI/CD workflows, Git, and Agile methodologies
- Experience in mobile app testing, using Sauce Labs or similar tools for cross-platform automation and validation.
- Expertise in test automation frameworks: Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Cucumber
- Skilled in TypeScript or other modern programming languages
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience with performance testing (JMeter, k6) and security tools (OWASP ZAP, Snyk)
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (axe-core, WAVE)
- Exposure to Generative AI and prompt engineering in test automation
- Proven experience leading QA in AWS or similar cloud-native environments, with contributions to architecture and deployment decisions.
