About the job

? Our mission: Innovation to patient, faster.

Platomics is looking for a Senior UX Researcher who can champion user needs and bring a human-centered approach to designing regulatory products that help get innovations to patients, faster.

We're looking for a dedicated UX Researcher who will oversee research in the product and design organization by serving as an individual contributor, as well as coaching and educating designers, product and customer success on the best ways to collect and utilize customer data.

We're seeking a Senior UX Researcher who wants to advocate for users and guide Platomics to learn, grow, and embody new ways of working. If you embrace a startup mindset, have a record of delivering results, and light up when collaborating cross-functionally, this is the role for you.

Knowledge of the German language is strongly desired. However, we may consider candidates who are open to exploring translation tools and ways of running research with German-speaking customers.

About Platomics

As regulations of the medical sector become increasingly strict in the European Union, health institutions, such as hospitals and laboratories struggle to maintain compliance due to a lack of knowledge and resources. This bears the risk of pushing small laboratories out of business and reducing the overall offering in diagnostics, ultimately resulting in a reduced health care quality for patients.

At Platomics, we address this problem by creating products that tap into an existing ecosystem and make complying with a wide range of regulations fast and easy.

Candidates should be prepared to work in a high-cadence environment, collaborating with a highly qualified and international team. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of millions of individuals by ensuring that treatments and laboratory analyses—especially for rare diseases—can remain available.

In this role, you will leverage your skills to run evaluative and foundational research that guides short- and long-term product experience strategies. You will help the teams articulate, prioritize and scope key research opportunities, strategically design and execute on study plans, and gather and activate customer insights. You will work closely with UX designers, PMs, and other stakeholders to ensure that we are identifying and addressing the most critical user needs and opportunities.

The Role

As the first full-time UX Researcher ("team of one") at Platomics you will contribute in three core areas:

Help Manage Research Across the Organization

  • Work closely with design and product to develop research goals, learning plan and research roadmaps
    • Stay connected to customer-related data collected across all touchpoints in the organization
  • Help the team prioritize research based on clear principles (e.g. biggest unknowns, highest business impact, mitigating risk)
  • When research is prioritized, help determine who will run the study, and provide coaching, training and oversight to designers and PMs, including:
    • Determine, apply and adapt the appropriate research methods for each project (moderated, unmoderated, survey, etc.)
    • Support with study design, moderation and facilitation
    • Activate and socialize findings and insights, continually making sure user data is leveraged across teams to build on organizational knowledge
  • When research is not prioritized, help the team leverage additional methods for evaluating designs or features (e.g. cognitive walkthroughs, heuristic evaluations, scorecards, literature reviews, "desk research"/secondary research)
  • Understand and articulate trade-offs with constraints, ensuring a high level of rigor, while helping the teams make decisions and move with speed
Run High-Impact Studies & Continually Build on Organization's Customer-Knowledge

  • Run high-impact, high-priority studies as an individual contributor
  • Establish yourself as a subject matter expert over time, becoming the "voice of the customer" in design and product meetings and advocating on behalf of user needs
  • Create useful, durable artefacts for teams (e.g. personas, user journeys, jobs to be done) by synthesizing data collected across different touch-points

Establish and Improve Research and User Data Collection Processes

  • Recruiting processes, improving access to customers, and gathering feedback at different touchpoints in the customer journey
  • Identifying and improve data collection practices and activation across the organization (Surveys, Sales and Onboarding Calls, Product Analytics & Behavioral Analytics, etc.)
  • Explore alternative methods to help the team gather insights or customer input with speed
  • Advocate for and implement new tools that empower user research within the organization
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops as needed to improve research expertise and customer-centric thinking across the organization

This will be a dynamic role that changes over time. You can expect your first 6 months in the role to be roughly 70% ReOps / Coaching vs 30% Individual contributor mix of work; while transitioning to a 70% IC work and 30% ReOps / Coaching split, as Platomics' research practice and processes become more established.

As a distributed team, we aim to create opportunities for people to work to their full potential whether that is in our headquarters in Vienna, Austria or in a remote location. The role is open to applicants based anywhere in Europe.

What you bring to the table

Required Qualifications

  • You have 3-5+ years of experience as a user researcher OR 2 years of experience as a user researcher and 3-5+ years experience in an adjacent department (e.g. customer success, data analytics, business intelligence, marketing or strategy)
  • You have a high bar for rigor and an attitude of continual improvement to user research practices.
  • You are a creative problem solver, seeking solutions in a challenging environment and taking time to reflect and improve on on past approaches
  • You work seamlessly across different departments and timezones, proactively in a remote work culture
  • You identify opportunities to improve processes, identify barriers and come up with a well-articulated plan to get buy-in from cross-functional stakeholders and leadership
  • You can put findings into business context to identify game-changing insights and translate them to product opportunties to help the product teams make better decisions, faster
  • Portfolio or work samples that demonstrate cross-functional stakeholder collaboration, problem-solving mindset and actionable, impactful insights
  • You are fluent in English (C1 or above; native) so you can communicate easily and effectively with internal teams, as well as customers who are not native English speakers
  • Strongly desired: German-language (C1 or above; native)

Nice to have

  • BA / Masters in a field related to design (Human Factors, User Experience, Design, Behavioral Science, Social Science)
  • Experience working in the Med-Tech / Bio-Tech / Health-Tech or another highly regulated space before (e.g. Quality Management System)
  • Experience working with B2B companies and/or start-ups (especially those with high complexity and/or limited direct access to users)
  • Experience working in a UX research-adjacent department (e.g. customer success, data analytics, business intelligence, marketing or strategy)
