The Estimator is responsible for leading a technical proposal team that responds to Customers Request for Proposals (RFPs).  The Estimator is required to take ownership in and be responsible for the technical proposal team and Beta’s response to RFPs.  The Estimator’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all technical requirements provided in the RFP are covered in Beta’s response to the RFP.  Beta’s response to Customer RFPs is in the form of a proposal that includes pricing and bid forms, scope of work, project schedule, terms and conditions, execution plans with org charts, drawings, equipment information and additional data.  Beta submits proposals to its Customers that are complete and with the anticipation that each proposal will result in new business for the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reads and understands project specifications (technical) to obtain a clear understanding of the project scope of work
  • Generate initial set of AutoCAD drawings to clearly illustrate the size, scope and context of the project
  • Assists Proposal Manager in generating the commercial portions of the Beta proposal. (eg. Bid Forms, Price Summary, Bid Breakouts, Option Pricing, and Alternate Bids)
  • Requests, evaluates and clarifies equipment, material, labor quotes from various vendors and providers
  • Assists Proposal Manager in developing and maintaining the master spreadsheets of material and labor needs and pricing
  • Initiates a potential construction schedule of the project using Microsoft Project
  • Coordinates with engineering departments for support with proposal process
  • Assists Proposal Manager in the organization and development of presentations for potential customers
  • Participates in department and pre-bid meetings as requested
  • Recognizes and recommends methods to increase productivity and quality
  • Recognizes and recommends methods to improve every customer’s experience
  • Additional duties as assigned by leadership.
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Works closely with Proposal Manager to build a complete Beta proposal.
  • Performs quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Interacts professionally with other employees and customers
  • Works effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
  • Demonstrates integrity and ethics in all client relationships and communications
  • Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor about department issues

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Vocational or technical certification or an Associate Degree in the engineering field is the minimum requirement
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Civil or Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management or related field is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Will work in an office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, and other environmental hazards. May involve prolonged periods of sitting and frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Use of company vehicle, on occasion. A successful Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required.
  • Some travel is required.
