Position Overview
We are seeking a Machine Shop Operator to join our skilled production team. This role is responsible for operating and supporting a variety of CNC and manual machine shop equipment to produce precision aviation components in accordance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
The Machine Shop Operator will set up, operate, and maintain equipment such as CNC mills and lathes, as well as manual machines including grinders and drill presses. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet required tolerances.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement while working effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes, as well as manual equipment such as grinders and drill presses
- Perform tool changes, touch-offs, and initial part setup, including edge finding and offset calculations
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to produce accurate parts
- Measure and inspect parts using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and make offset adjustments as needed
- Deburr, finish, and inspect machined components to ensure quality standards are met
- Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to support efficient operation
- Maintain accurate documentation and part records as required
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet manufacturing deadlines and specifications
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of machining experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred; Trade school experience may be considered
- Experience operating CNC mills and/or lathes
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of G-code and M-code preferred
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to workplace safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Haas or Fanuc-style controls
- Ability to program at the machine from a drawing
- Experience with Mastercam
- Prior experience in aviation or aerospace manufacturing
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds at waist level
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle materials
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts
