As a key member of our Finance Department, you’ll help ensure that our agency remains compliant, efficient, and financially sound so our programs can continue serving children and families with excellence.
What You’ll Do
Keep Our Financial Operations Running Smoothly
- Review, code, and record financial transactions to support accurate, timely reporting
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, trial balances, and financial summaries
- Monitor accounts receivable and ensure timely collections from various funding sources
- Track and review grant and program expenditures to ensure compliance with budgets and funder requirements
- Assist with preparing and revising annual program budgets and budget amendments
Support Reporting & Financial Analysis
- Prepare accounting reports, financial statements, and analyses as requested
- Complete statistical reports, cash flow projections, and other financial decision-making tools
- Ensure all financial reports meet agency standards and comply with federal, state, and local regulations
- Recommend improvements to financial systems, internal controls, and procedures
Strengthen Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records for all program and grant-related expenditures, including Head Start medical/dental and special needs documentation
- Maintain monthly spreadsheets and tracking tools across multiple funding streams (Head Start, Child Care, etc.)
- Verify and prepare voucher requests and required documentation for grants and other funders
Provide Payroll & Administrative Support
- Assist with preparing and processing payroll through Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and proper coding
- Support the development of budgets, financial proposals, and cost allocation plans
- Participate in internal audits, trainings, meetings, and fiscal reviews
- Assist with special projects and administrative needs across the agency
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Up to two years of accounting experience preferred; internship or entry-level experience welcome
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software; Paylocity experience a plus
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP
- Experience with grant accounting and compliance for public and private funding sources
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to prepare accurate financial reports
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
