Position Summary
Test and evaluate new products, revised products, production products, and other products from within the HVAC marketplace. Designs, builds, maintains and operates test stands and related equipment. Tests Taco’s products in accordance with standards set forth by plumbing/testing agencies and internal procedures. Maintains and organizes all records of test data, standards, and test apparatus.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Measures, cuts, threads and/or solders pipe to build test stands in accordance with sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions.
- Wiring of relays, timers, switches, actuators, pumps, and all other electrical and hydraulic components to perform laboratory tests.
- Performs conventional product performance tests and requested tests/inspections and records the test results to prepare written test reports.
- Works with computer data acquisition systems and uses computer spreadsheets. Treats test results of Tacos’ and competitors’ products confidentially.
- Installs appropriate test and measuring equipment such as pipes, spools, couplings thermocouples, flowmeters, pressure transducers, digital multimeters (DMM), current transducers, and power monitors.
- Assists with servicing life cycle test products and test stands as well as installing, removing and maintaining motors and controls. Also assists with removing life cycle test stand components that have failed in normal service (circulators, motors, timers, fuses, relays, immersion heaters).
- Maintains laboratory effectiveness by keeping laboratory tools in good, clean, and repaired condition, and placing tools in a prescribed location after use. Maintains laboratory order by keeping area clean and neatly arranged.
- Secures laboratory and continuous life tests for overnight and weekend unattended operation by checking windows, shut-off valves, relief valves, temperatures, and oil/water levels.
- Possesses skills to complete tasks safely, effectively, and independently
- Collaborates and works with other lab team members to reduce risk/injuries
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, and/or HVAC concepts
- Knowledge of basic math and formulas
- Experience with recording data, counting data points, and organizing data
- Basic competency using meters, power tools, hand tools
- Basic knowledge and understanding of standard 120V/220V AC wiring, 208/230V, 460V AC & 600V 3-Phase wiring of motors and variable frequency drives (VFD)
- Basic understanding of thermocouples, 4-20mA/0-10VDC sensors, flow meters, torque meters, pressure gages, and pressure transmitters
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
- High level of flexibility with the ability to easily pivot from one task to another, high level of flexibility
- Ability to communicate technical information to all levels in the organization
- Creative problem solving skills
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Technology, Engineering Technology, or HVAC related fields
- Additional technical or mechanical training or experience related to plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC
- Experience with electrical circuitry, troubleshooting wiring, and connecting electrical components
- Experience using Data Acquisition Hardware and Software
- Skilled in data reporting and spreadsheets
- Advanced understanding of plumbing concepts, fittings, and joining technologies
- Ability to work independently
Work Environment
The Test Technician will work primarily in a lab/office environment and is exposed to loud noise levels, electricity, water at high temperature and pressure levels. Additionally, there may be exposure to warehouse and productions settings, where safety equipment and/or personal protective gear is required.
This position is on-site and reports into the site every day.
This position has no direct reports.
