Job Summary:

We are looking for a passionate and innovative Data Scientist to join Wellstar's growing Office of Clinician Well-Being (OCW). (S)He should be strongly anchored in the "True North" of the OCW enabling purposeful contributions of Wellstar clinicians (i.e., physicians, APPs, nurses, and residents). This role reports to the Director of Operations for the Office of Clinician Well-Being but maintains a close relationship with the enterprise Business Intelligence team. From collaborating with stakeholders to define high-impact strategies, to acquiring and transforming data, building robust ETL pipelines, conducting ML research, and deploying optimized modelsthis role is central to delivering measurable value across the health system. The OCW Data Scientist will be responsible for developing and maintaining data products that drive actionable insights. These insights are captured through thoughtfully designed business metrics and visualized in dashboards that validate performance and inform decision-making.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Deliver high-impact actionable insights to the internal OCW team, as well as executive stakeholders through data visualization. This includes selecting the most appropriate visualization tools and delivery mechanisms. Perform exploratory data analysis using statistical tools and programs provided by Wellstar from structured, unstructured, and diverse datasets; apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to more proactive identification of at-risk clinicians and intervention improvement supporting the True North of the OCW. Partner with various functions to produce innovative and transformative data science solutions which directly contribute to achieving team and enterprise goals and vision. Work with vast amounts of data from multiple sources to develop/refine/improve predictive models using advanced Python and machine learning techniques. Extracts data from a variety of sources, including Epic, Epic Signal, the Well-being Index (WBI) platform, etc. Discover and communicate actionable insights to decision makers. Make presentations to leadership and decision-makers. Data preprocessing: clean, prepare and verify integrity of data to be used for analysis. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Business Information Systems or Bachelors Computer Science or Bachelors Engineering or Bachelors Applied Mathematics or Bachelors Finance
  • Masters Other-Preferred

    Required Minimum Experience:

    Minimum 1 year Hands-on experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) based solution development using machine learning in general and deep learning techniques. Preferred and Minimum 1 year Demonstrated experience in solving regression and classification problems using both supervised and unsupervised techniques, Natural Language Generation (NLU), entity recognition, transfer learning, language modeling and transformer-based architecture Preferred and Minimum 3 years Experience working with large datasets, diving into data to discover hidden patterns, using data visualization tools, with advanced proficiency in SQL, Python and/or R studio. Required and Minimum 3 years Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools such as PowerBI. Required and Minimum 3 years Demonstrated business focus; must excel at connecting business requirements to analytic objectives and to measurable business benefit. Required and Minimum 1 year Previous experience working with healthcare data from Epic application. Preferred and Minimum 1 year Previous experience with cloud solutions (Azure) and cloud-based machine learning frameworks. Preferred and Minimum 1 year Experience with cloud-based analytic services.     Required Minimum Skills:

    Advanced proficiency in fine tuning, training, and validating a text classifier algorithm. Proficient in exploring & analyzing unstructured / text data and conclude findings/insights. Strong background in designing and building publication-ready interactive and self-guided data visualizations using diverse sets of structured and unstructured data Strong aptitude toward understanding technology concepts and techniques and learning to use new data management and presentation toolsets Ability to work independently and within a team environment; self-motivated, well-organized, and strong time management skills Knowledge and application of descriptive statistics Attention to detail Clear and effective communication (both verbal and written) Strong processing/comprehension/ problem-solving abilities Ability to summarize and present findings visually
