General Purpose: Assist with maintaining the Credit Union’s financial records by preparing daily general ledger transactions, monthly financial reports, and performing various accounting duties. Assist, Accounting Manager on projects as they arise.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Accountant I | II
- Responsible for reconciliation of various loan balances and related deferral accounts.
- Assist Accountant in reconciling Student Loan Participation Activities.
- Balance Money Order and Cashier Checks Accounts.
- Month end processing activities to include: creation of month end vouchers to record various deferrals, track charge-off recovery payments, and create detail trial balance history. Reconcile several balance sheet accounts.
- Assist in writing and updating accounting procedures and review team member reports and spread sheets.
Accountant I:
- Assist with Accounts Payable mailings and reconcile Accounts Payable liability account and Outstanding Checks.
- Monitor and record activity for repossessions and other assets.
- Clear various ACH accounts for posting to the GL.
Accountant II:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and statistical reports as requested by the Accounting Manager, CFO, or President. Ensure that all assigned reports are prepared in an accurate and timely manner.
- Responsible for research and implementation of new accounting-related systems as assigned by the Accounting Manager or CFO. Additionally, research data and design complex reports, utilizing spreadsheet software.
- Work closely with NCUA examiners and independent auditors to ensure access to Credit Union documents necessary to perform reviews of the Credit Union operations. Responsible for preparation of auditing schedules deemed necessary by auditors/examiners, Accounting Manager, or CFO.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Back-up duties for other staff members as vacation and workloads require.
- Assist in locating and correcting any out-of-balance general ledger conditions.
- Assist employees in resolving member problems when asked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of organization's policies/procedures and Credit Union's service philosophy.
- Working knowledge of the Credit Union's products and services.
- Working knowledge of safety and security program for false alarms, robberies, bomb threats and extortion.
- Working knowledge of Credit Union's in-house computer system.
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP).
- Working knowledge of computer software programs: i.e., Microsoft Excel & Word.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience):
Accountant I: Job requires a two-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills. Accounting classes preferred. Two years’ experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
Accountant II: Bachelor’s degree preferred, with an emphasis in accounting or finance. Significant course work in accounting preferred. Three years experience in a related field with equal responsibilities is acceptable. Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.

Work Environment/Physical Activities
Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.
Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
