Position Title: Marketing Specialist (Temporary Role)

POSITION SUMMARY
This is a non-exempt, temporary part-time non-student position. The Marketing Specialist is responsible for supporting the Marketing and Communications Department by executing, analyzing, and optimizing marketing initiatives. Core responsibilities include oversight of digital marketing campaigns, social media management, analytics reporting, and departmental benchmarking that informs strategy and team development. The role also contributes to cross-campus engagement, advising and supporting student staff, and ensuring consistent application of brand standards across digital and print channels. Secondary functions include design assistance and project coordination to maintain smooth operations.
Capacity to work effectively in a University environment and support the mission and goals of an educational institution are essential. Partnering with university departments to create new programming opportunities and foster community building will be the key success of this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Digital Marketing Oversight
Manage and monitor social media accounts (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok), ensuring timely posting, consistent voice, and brand alignment informed by performance data.
Track and analyze campaign performance across digital platforms, applying findings to improve reach, engagement, and conversion.
Research and apply current digital marketing trends, benchmarking results to guide departmental growth.
Provide data-driven recommendations that optimize campaigns and demonstrate measurable impact for the department.
Schedule promotional campaigns and assist with cross-departmental communications.
Assist in maintaining consistency between digital and print channels.
Analytics & Reporting
Collect and compile digital marketing, event attendance, and web traffic data, translating raw numbers into actionable insights that inform strategy.
Create dashboards and draft reports highlighting key metrics for Marketing Manager review.
Identify insights, trends, and growth opportunities, positioning the department to adjust strategies quickly and effectively.
Use analytics platforms and native insights tools (Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, Instagram Insights, YouTube Studio, TikTok Analytics, Facebook Page Insights) to evaluate effectiveness
Internal Benchmarking & Departmental Analysis
Support the Marketing Manager by curating and tracking departmental benchmarks to measure marketing effectiveness against historical performance.
Assist in collecting and analyzing data on team member professional development benchmarks to inform leadership on training needs and growth trends.
Prepare reports aligning internal performance metrics with external marketing outcomes, ensuring departmental progress supports both student and organizational goals.
Departmental & Cross-Campus Engagement
Attend department staff meetings and ongoing staff development trainings as appropriate.
Demonstrate capacity to train, advise, and coordinate activities of student staff and event volunteers.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Creative Team Support
Support Interim Marketing Manager by providing formatting and resizing of graphics in alignment with digital engagement trends, ensuring consistency across campaigns.
Support student designers with routine formatting and prep tasks.
Assist with small design projects, revisions, and campaign materials during peak workloads or reduced staffing periods.
Help maintain and organize shared graphics folders, digital assets, and archives to track usage and reinforce brand consistency across print and digital collateral.
Ensure consistent application of brand guidelines across all collateral.
Partner with student designers, providing logistical and technical support.
Project Coordination
Support Interim Marketing Manager with T tracking workflows and project timelines using project management tools, ensuring campaign priorities are informed by data.
Organize, track, and update project workflows using project management tools.
Draft and distribute the Marketing Toolkit email with client-ready assets and basic performance context.
Provide initial client communication on straightforward digital requests before escalation, recommending adjustments based on analytics when possible.
Contribute to improvements in workflow, campaign execution, and project tracking, grounded in data and observed outcomes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated experience in social media management, event planning, and digital campaign oversight.
Ability to train, advise, and coordinate the activities of student staff and event volunteers.
Ability to work independently and creatively to execute effective programs and services.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to convert data into actionable insights.
Requires excellent customer service and public speaking ability.
Requires demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Microsoft Publisher, and other planning tools.
Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Familiarity with SEO and analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media dashboards, ad platforms).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management tools, and basic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Publisher).
Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups.
Demonstrated competencies in project management and crisis management.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, HOURS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job operates in an office environment but will require frequent travel to outdoor and indoor event locations as needed. This position routinely uses standard office equipment.
Work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
Must be able to operate a computer, including a keyboard and mouse, and phone.
Must be able to occasionally lift or carry office or event products or supplies, up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field.
1–2 years’ experience in digital marketing coordination, analytics, or campaign management (internships acceptable).
Proficiency with social media management platforms, Google Suite, and project management software.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
