We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to manage the financial operations of our small business which provides business licensing services on a national basis. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and is comfortable wearing multiple hats in a dynamic setting. The Controller will oversee all aspects of accounting and finance, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting. The Controller will report directly to the senior executive management team. Upon hiring, the successful candidate will complete introductory training in licensing processes to ensure a solid understanding of the company’s operations.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Manage vendor payments and customer invoicing
Monitor aging reports and ensure timely collections and disbursements
Manage an invoicing team of two (2) employees
QuickBooks Management:
Input checks into QB, print and maintain accurate records of each
Reconcile company bank accounts and credit card statements
Payroll Administration:
Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 20 employees using Paylocity
Coordinate with Paylocity to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Support annual IRS related benefits filings
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Support tax filings and liaise with external accountants as needed
HR Related Tasks:
Onboard and offboard employees in Paylocity and internal systems
Ensure no duplicate benefits billing through Employee Navigator
Office Presence:
This is an in-office position for the first six (6) months
Remote work environment may be considered after the initial period based on performance and business needs
Qualifications:
Proven experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a small business environment
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Paylocity
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
