Qualifications:
College hours, high school diploma or GED (preferred)
Minimum of two (2) years successful school bus driving experience (preferred)
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
School Bus Driver Certification or able to obtain with six months of hire date
Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
Must possess leadership ability necessary to supervise employees under his/her direction
Ability to communicate feedback constructively in order to maintain a positive learning environment
Negative results on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Able to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits

Primary Purpose:
Provide training for bus driver personnel on driving skill sets and student management techniques. Be a mentor for other school bus drivers following the guidelines in the KISD and Transportation employee handbooks. Safely transport students and staff to and from district sanctioned activities. Always act in the best interest of the district, the students and the community. Be a role model for other transportation employees.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train/retrain newly hired-and-current-drivers-and attendants on the bus, behind the wheel, theory in the classroom and one-on-one.
- Convey procedures and practices set forth by the state and district with emphasis on federal guidelines, policies, procedures, practices and laws governing the transportation of students and students with disabilities.
- Research and evaluate innovative techniques and procedures as related to transportation and training.
- Update and maintain training materials as necessary.
- Maintain daily paperwork and confidentiality.
- Schedule school bus training to include drivers, attendants, coaches, life skills teachers/aides and mechanics.
- Cooperation with supervisors and office personnel in maintaining training and personnel records.
- Serve as a substitute driver/attendant on routes as necessary.
- Perform various office duties as necessary.
- Review of observation and training forms with suggestions for updates.
- Communicate and meet with other trainers on all aspects of training/forms/training materials to maintain the safety standards of the KISD Transportation department.
- Operate any Katy ISD school bus and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner while following all traffic laws, district policies, district regulations and Transportation Department regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
School buses, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.), special needs equipment to include lifts, wheelchair and car seat securement. Office equipment necessary to complete the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Continual sitting, reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (105°F). high humidity, pollen, etc. Exposed to heat, dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension.
