Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking a motivated Sr. Air Quality Professional to join our EHS team in Houston, TX or Tulsa, OK. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects for clients in the oil & gas and chemical sectors in the US. Make decisions and recommendations recognized as authoritative and have important business impact on extensive engineering activities to research, design, plan, or perform in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines, like waste treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements performing feasibility studies, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities. Conceive, develop, and evaluate plans and criteria for broad areas of considerable novelty and importance that are regarded as major advances in the field. Solve a variety of unique and complex engineering problems. Assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions. Act as an expert and authority in the company in a broad area of specialization.

Responsibilities

Needs Assessment:

  • Work with clients and colleagues to meet deadlines on unique and challenging air quality projects.
  • Identify and assess client needs related to environmental compliance, permitting, and reporting.
  • Conduct air quality analyses, assess regulatory compliance, and perform applicability evaluations across multiple industries.

Improvement/Innovation:

  • Develop complete and accurate air quality permits for Title V, Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), and New Source Review compliance.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in environmental compliance processes and documentation.
  • Prepare emission inventory reports and quantify air pollutant emissions and impacts.

Engineering Solutions Design:

  • Manage multiple air quality projects spanning disciplines such as permitting, dispersion modeling, emissions reporting, regulatory compliance, and audits.
  • Prepare technical recommendations, project documentation, and reports of results in alignment with regulatory and client requirements.

Engineering Standards Specification:

  • Apply a thorough understanding of air emissions and emission reporting processes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure deliverables meet regulatory standards and internal quality expectations.

Health, Safety, and Environment:

  • Maintain a commitment to GHD’s core value of Safety in all project activities.
  • Support compliance management programs within the chemical, petrochemical, refining, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors.

Professional Supervision:

  • Supervise and mentor junior staff in technical execution and professional development.
  • Provide guidance to project teams in communication, client engagement, and technical quality.

Project Management:

  • Perform multiple tasks within defined scope, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Manage projects, track progress, and maintain successful relationships with clients, employees, and subcontractors.

Client & Customer Management (External):

  • Communicate complex regulatory issues and concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain relationships with clients, ensuring high-quality delivery and responsiveness.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of direct consulting or industry experience involving environmental permitting and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with Title V, PSD, and NSR air permitting, emissions inventories, and compliance management.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and client relationships in a consulting environment.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff (1–3 years).
