The King County Facilities Management Division (FMD) Security Management Section (SMS) is seeking an experienced, professional, and dependable Security Dispatcher, whose responsibility is to monitor and operate CCTV, access control systems, security communications, and duress and intrusion alarms. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill one immediate full-time benefited career service positions.

  • Shift/Schedule: The exact shift and schedule for this position may vary and is subject to change based on business and operational needs. Possible shift(s) may include:
    • Tuesday - Saturday, 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM, or
    • Sunday - Thursday, 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Position Duties

In order to be considered for this exciting opportunity, the successful candidate at a minimum will demonstrate skill and ability to: 

  • Safeguard County property against damage or loss and to safeguard County employees and authorized persons in County facilities protected by the Enterprise Security Electronics system.
  • Control ingress and egress of assigned County premises via operation of the remote access control system.
  • Answer the emergency security dispatch phone line gathering the necessary information to dispatch the appropriate security or emergency personnel.
  • Perform security checks of assigned premises via CCTV checking building interiors, doors and building perimeters.
  • Report criminal activity and unusual or unsafe conditions.
  • Evaluate observed or reported incidents, prepares accurate, comprehensive incident reports of criminal activity, suspicious circumstances, emergency 911 responses, building emergencies and personal injuries.
  • Dispatch FMD Security Officers and King County Sheriff's Office Court Protection Deputies via 800 MHz Radio.
  • Route after-hours building emergency repair requests, contact the Duty Manager and Security leadership as necessary.
  • Routinely monitor and report the operational status of security systems including camera checks, device failures and communications losses.
  • Escalate notifications for any needed systems and/or equipment repairs to section leadership in a timely manner.
  • Assist with lead role in the absence of the security sergeant.
  • Attend annual required training.
  • Conduct radio checks as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • One (1) year of professional paid security, military, or law enforcement experience.
  • One (1) year of experience in monitoring multiple radios, CCTV, monitors, and other related systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of Security operations with the Facilities Management Division.
  • Basic skills with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Proven experience in analyzing and prioritizing personnel response based on situation.
  • Ability to direct staff within company, agency, building, etc., during incident response and emergencies.
  • Experience in dispatching and notifying appropriate internal and external agency personnel using current notification guidelines.
  • Police defensive tactics and use of force.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior leadership experience in dispatching, security and/or public safety.
  • Graduation from a state certified law enforcement or public safety academy.

  • This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is eligible for overtime.
  • Reporting location: King County Courthouse
  • Shift/Schedule: The exact shift(s) and schedule for this position may vary and is subject to change based on business and operational needs.
  • This position is represented by the King County Security Guild.
  • This position is designated as Mission Critical - employees who provide for and maintain the essential functions of county services during declared or otherwise occurring emergencies.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license, or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles.
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation with the Facilities Management Division and the Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS), as well as references and a pre-employment physical examination, if selected.
