Summary:
Genesee & Wyoming (“G&W”) is a growing short line railroad operator with a broad North American and UK/European footprint. The Tax Intern will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of G&W’s state income tax returns as well as special projects as necessary.
The internship is full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer semester in our Rochester, NY office and paid at a rate of $21.00 hourly.
Responsibilities:
- Compliance – prepare various state and other miscellaneous tax returns to ensure compliance with local and state laws
- Research – perform basic tax research on domestic tax issues, including state and local tax questions, and various other related issues
- Handle administrative tasks such as data entry for tax returns, printing and scanning
Required Skills and Experience:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent critical thinking/problem solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-starter
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree
