The Senior Process Engineer will provide process engineering support for offshore production operations and facilities engineering/maintenance teams within the framework of Talos Energy policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable regulations.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be responsible for process engineering support of Deepwater producing assets.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform process modeling to identify optimization opportunities within the production facilities.
  • Assess and troubleshoot production separation, compression, dehydration, oil and gas export and storage, water treating, fuel gas, relief valves, utility air and water, production safety systems, and all associated components.
  • Support measurement and allocation processes.
  • Support production chemistry and flow assurance teams.
  • Support SEMS processes (MOC’s, Document Control).
  • Lead and participate PHA, risk, and API 14C reviews.
  • Assist with regulatory submittals (BSEE, USCG, ABS) and technical code equivalencies.
  • Assist with preparation and submittals for temporary packages, i.e. flowback.
  • Support brownfield modifications, life-extension projects, reliability upgrades, tie-back scopes and emissions abatement projects.
  • Supervise and add technical support where necessary for:
    • Developing or altering standard project specifications to meet project requirements.
    • Performing technical quality checking of facility drawings and other documents. Verify correctness of design and engineering data.
    • Sizing calculations for process equipment, piping, in-line instruments, valves, and pipelines using various tools.
    • Reviewing and approving key engineering drawings and calculations, including field and design documents.
    • Gathering data, including site surveys and existing conditions data to facilitate accurate design basis.
    • Developing and oversight of drawings (P&ID’s, SFD’s, SAFE Charts, GA’s, Hazardous Area Classifications).
  • Be familiar with project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil, marine/naval, and electrical components to allow for consideration of these aspects in a project or area design.
  • Review vendor/fabricator quotes and select appropriate suppliers. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in operations support and design of oil and gas producing facilities with offshore experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of separation, compression, dehydration, gas handling, produced water treatment, export and utility systems.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and process optimization of offshore production systems.
  • Ability to size, rate, assess, troubleshoot, select and verify equipment (separators, scrubbers, pumps, compressors) and piping and instrumentation components (valves, control valves, PSV’s, metering, piping, fittings).
  • Ability to conduct, review and interpret process safety studies and process control philosophies, relief systems assessment, P&IDs, cause-and-effect logic, etc.
  • Working knowledge of process simulation tools (HYSYS, UniSim or comparable software) and data analysis tools (Excel, PI Vision).
  • Knowledge of codes and standards associated with oil and gas production (CFR’s, API, ASME, ANSI, NFPA, ABS), particularly API 14C and process safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with production chemistry, flow assurance, corrosion processes, material selection, and subsea production/control systems.
  • Experience supporting day-to-day production operations and leading root cause analyses for process upsets or reliability events.
  • Ability to balance production efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance in real-world operating environments.
  • Capable of mentoring junior engineers and effectively interfacing with other disciplines such as operations, HSE, and maintenance teams.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to both engineering and field personnel.
  • Willing to travel to vendor offices and industry conferences.
  • Perform offshore site visits on a regular frequency.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position.
  • Ability to travel without limitation, including airplanes, helicopters and boats and use of swing ropes.
  • Ability to move freely on offshore oil rigs, including stairs ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Endure extreme weather conditions, hazardous atmospheres.
