Position Summary:

Pete’s Fresh Market (PFM) is a family owned and operated supermarket and one of the leading independent grocers in the greater Chicagoland area. With 17 established locations and more on the way, the ideal candidate will implement loss prevention procedures to safeguard company assets, prevent and minimize theft, and reduce shortages and fraud. Must be able to multi-task. The candidate must possess excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and the desire to take initiative. It is essential that this candidate possess a warm and welcoming personality. This person must demonstrate Pete’s Market Four Pillars: Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Service. 

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry.
  • Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures.
  • Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
  • Maintain safe and secure environment for customers and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.
  • Investigates suspicious customer and/or employee activity.
  • Audits and investigates sources of known losses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education, Certifications, and Qualifications:

  • One to three years of experience in retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of retail operations and loss prevention strategies and procedures
  • Effective interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; takes initiative
  • Friendly, approachable and outgoing demeanor/team player
  • Sound judgement/decision making skills
  • Ability to read/interpret documents
  • Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction)
  • PERC Card is required

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent fluency with the English language; fluent in Spanish language is a plus
  • Self-motivated and ambitious
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Ability to wear “many hats” and be flexible
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, able to resolve complex issues in creative ways
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the business needs

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to:
  • Frequent hand use, single grasping, squeezing, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, twisting wrist, bending and hand to eye coordination
  • Standing in one location, walking, turning, reaching, stooping/bending, squatting
  • Lifting/carrying objects 5 to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 200 lbs., occasional lifting objects over 40 lbs. and pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 500 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders, stooping and crawling. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. 
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals. 
  • May be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments such as: 
  • Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit. 
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions. 
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.


Hourly Rate is local minimum + $5 range.
