Annual Salary Ranges
General Transportation Tech II (A17): $42,976- $64,469
General Transportation Tech III (A18): $45,521- $71,055
This position is for a General Transportation Tech I, II or III depending on business need and applicant's qualifications. Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
General Transportation Tech II and III
- Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
- Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mail box supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
- Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
- Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
- Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
- Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
- Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.

*Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- GTT II: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
- GTT III: Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement from date of application
