Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Administrator or designee, the Life Enrichment Director plans, implements and oversees a variety of program services that contribute to the quality of life and personal wellbeing of residents of or seniors served by a retirement community. This position supervises and directs the work of resident and community volunteers to help achieve these goals.
Key Responsibilities
Plans and develops robust activities and events for the community, including a variety of opportunities for participation from each of the seven components of wellness (social, educational, intellectual, spiritual, vocational, environmental, emotional).
- Serves as a member of the community’s management team and wellness team to identify resident needs, submit recommendations, and participate in decisions regarding community activities and events.
- Attends resident association meetings and works with committees of residents, as appropriate, in an advisory and supportive capacity to identify resident and program needs.
- Provides a link between resident associations and/or committees and staff.
- Conducts surveys with seniors who are new the community, then on an ongoing annual basis (as desired by resident) to determine individual desires, hobbies, wishes and motivations.
Coordinates wellness activities.
- Communicates upcoming activities and events through community newsletters, calendars, bulletin boards, in-house TV programming, fliers, and such.
- Coordinates community holiday and special celebrations including resident birthday recognitions.
- Organizes calendars for reserving rooms for activities or events.
- Serves as the main point of contact for vendors contracted to lead an activity or event, including their introduction to the community and their payment.
- Maintains and stores supplies required for various activities.
Coordinates and oversees volunteer opportunities.
- Recruits volunteers and community volunteer organizations to provide programs and activities for residents, including other residents.
- Recruits, trains, and recognizes volunteers.
- Assists with community public relations as needed.
- Develops avenues for volunteers to work with residents individually.
- Provides opportunities for residents to volunteer.
- Serves as staff liaison in the coordination of student interns as needed.
- Serves as liaison to Wesley Woods Foundation volunteers.
- Maintains contact information for volunteers.
May provide office support, answering telephones and performing clerical duties required for the position. Attends staff meetings and participates in staff assignments as needed.
- Maintains and distributes resident directories, with contact information.
- Maintains lists as necessary such as photo permission, liability release, assistive devices, and more.
Oversees transportation services.
- Coordinates transportation schedule to groceries, doctors, shopping, leisure activities and other resident activities.
- Works with maintenance department when vehicle maintenance is necessary.
- May drive as needed.
Complies with Wesley Woods’ standards of conduct and job-related behavior standards.

- Complies with annual employee health assessments.
- Maintains acceptable attendance standards.
Pursues training and development opportunities, attending educational opportunities to keep current in developments important to success of the wellness program.
Works on projects with the Personal Care Manager (and other levels of care as applicable) to provide specific activities directed toward the abilities and desires of residents in these settings.
Works with corporate Wellness Director to collect data, metrics, and stories for corporate wellness Initiatives.
- Serves on the Wellness Team in the community to coordinate care and actions with Service Coordinators, Nurses, Therapists, Social Workers, Chaplains, and others as appropriate.
- Collects and/or oversees the collection of data from residents as needed.
- Suggests and implements new/different wellness programming based on data.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, physical fitness, recreation therapy, art therapy or related field or three years of related experience. Experience working in a senior community a plus.
Basic computer skill to include Microsoft Office products. Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to handle sensitive situations.
Must have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English.
Current CPR and/or First Aid will be required.
Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pound and to push residents in wheelchairs.
Physical Demands
Maintains an office in the retirement community. Will works in the community, indoors and outdoors, to implement activities and events. Will be involved in the set-up and breakdown of events and activities. Requires standing in front of groups to lead, assist or introduce activities and events. May be required to travel for day activities off-site. May be required to drive the community vehicle, as appropriate.
Additional Information
This position reports to the Residential Administrator or designee, and will generally work 40 hours per week however the position requires a willingness and flexibility in working hours when necessary to fulfill job responsibilities including occasional evening or weekend work. The employee is subject to personnel policies and procedures prescribed for all employees.
