WHO WE ARE

The J. Reuben Clark Law Society is an international non-profit organization of attorneys and law students of faith, and is part of the J. Reuben Clark Law School.

Founded in 1973, the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University (BYU Law) has grown into one of the nation's leading law schools. Boasting an expert faculty and strong student body, the Law School provides an exceptional "education grounded in legal theory, enhanced by experiential learning, and enlightened by the laws of God." WHAT WE DO

Founded in 1988, the Law Society’s mission is to: 

(1) defend religious freedom and moral values; 

(2) serve the vulnerable in communities around the world through pro bono legal service and humanitarian service; and 

(3) uphold the rule of law and principles of constitutionalism.

Under the direction of BYU Law's administration, the Law Society prepares students for meaningful careers and contributions to our society. The Law Society affords students opportunities to develop leadership skills and equips students with cross-cultural competence, preparing them to engage and communicate effectively. The Law Society also inspires students to acquire and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, civility, and ethics.


WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS POSITION


Under the direction of the Law Society Directors and in coordination with volunteers and members of the Management Team, the Events Manager plans and manages the Law Society’s five major international conferences and events each year. The Events Manager oversees event logistics, communications, budgeting, and on-site operations, supported by a team of student employees and volunteers around the world.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining positive working relationships with speakers, volunteers, sponsors, and institutional partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Annual Fireside (January)

  • Coordinate the participation and travel of high-profile speakers and award recipients.

  • Work with Church Hosting and broadcast teams on venue, catering, translation, and production.

  • Manage program materials, communications, marketing campaigns, and event website content.

  • Oversee VIP invitations, onsite logistics, and student employee assignments.


2. Annual Conference (February/March)

  • Collaborate with international volunteers and the local host committee to plan and execute the multi-day conference.

  • Oversee speaker invitations, sponsorship outreach, printed program design, contracts, and marketing.

  • Manage registration, conference materials, and onsite logistics.

  • Coordinate CLE credit and award distribution.

  • Supervise student and volunteer support teams during the event.

3. Religious Liberty Fellowship (May/June)

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for a weeklong educational program at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

  • Coordinate participant and speaker travel, lodging, and scheduling.

  • Attend the event and oversee onsite support in collaboration with the Student Chapters Manager and volunteers.

4. Education Week CLE Program (August)

  • Plan and execute the annual CLE program held during BYU Education Week.

  • Coordinate over 20 speakers and sessions, manage event budgeting, catering, and a professional luncheon.

  • Prepare materials, gifts, surveys, and oversee student and onsite support.

5. Leadership Conference (October)

  • Plan and manage a multi-day international leadership training event, including lodging, transportation, and conference activities.

  • Coordinate stipends and reimbursements in collaboration with BYU Travel and the Law School financial office.

  • Oversee marketing, printed materials, speaker coordination, and onsite translation and broadcast support.

  • Manage ticketing and communication for participants attending LDS General Conference.


General Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train student employees supporting event preparation and execution.

  • Manage event budgets, payments, and reimbursements in coordination with BYU Law financial staff.

  • Maintain strong communication with volunteers, speakers, and institutional partners.

  • Create and maintain content for all event-related websites and promotional materials.

  • Ensure all events align with the mission and values of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and BYU Law School.


 WHAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS ROLE?


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR three years of related experience.

  • Previous experience managing a team and high profile events.

  • Ability to independently plan and execute an event from top to bottom with minimal supervision while keeping Law Society Directors updated and informed.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with high level executives, Church leaders, and speakers regarding important event details.

  • Ability to manage and lead a team of students and other support staff in operating an event.

  • Ability to motivate a team to achieve goals and put on high quality events.

  • Ability to track and manage a budget of five or six figures and ensure events stay within budget.

  • Advanced technical skills for operating websites, registration pages, Google Workspace platforms, Microsoft Zoom accounts, and other event management software and tools.

  • Exceptional time management skills to meet deadlines.

  • Problem solving skills to address and resolve issues in advance of and during events.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing with senior professionals and volunteer leaders, to provide a positive experience at all events.

  • Highly developed organizational and efficiency skills, including ability to oversee many projects simultaneously, complete projects in a timely manner, and use innovative ideas to make events unique and memorable.

  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office,and other general office applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in designing and implementing programs and facilitating events.

Preferred:  

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of related experience

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) and design applications (Canva, Powerpoint, Adobe Creative Cloud).

  • Experience with marketing campaigns

  • Drafting and understanding complicated processes and procedures with budgets and approvals.

Pay Level: 51
Typical Starting Pay Range: $28.25 - $35.25 per hour
Actual compensation based on education and experience
