Regional School Unit 57 Position Title: Custodian 2nd Shift (1:30 - 9:30 pm) Reports To: Head Custodian or Lead Custodian
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to use and maintain custodial equipment and machines
Basic knowledge of the safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and community members
Ability to use basic technology (e.g., email, timesheet software)
Job Goal
Maintain the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the school or facility, including minor repairs and maintenance.
Promote positive community relations among students, staff, families, and community members.
Performance Responsibilities
Clean assigned areas of the facility, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and common areas.
Perform general maintenance tasks related to the upkeep and operation of the facility.
Ensure the general security of the facility during regular shifts, including locking doors and securing the building as needed.
Report building maintenance concerns to the Head or Lead Custodian for referral to the Building Maintenance Department as appropriate.
Participate in snow removal duties, including shoveling, snow blowing or plowing, and applying sand or salt to walkways.
During summer months, perform deep cleaning and general maintenance of the building; may be assigned to district-wide maintenance projects as needed.
Observe and follow all district policies and procedures.
Work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to hot or cold temperatures for extended periods.
Assist in the setup and breakdown of special events under the direction of the Head or Lead Custodian.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, and using ladders.
Constant lifting of 5–20 pounds; frequent lifting of 20–50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 75 pounds.
Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, climbing, and kneeling; occasional crawling, stooping, and sitting.
Ability to perform various physical tasks as required by the position.
Terms of Employment
Hourly position; work year as established by the RSU 57 School Board.
Working conditions determined by the School Board and applicable district policies.
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the School Board’s policies on evaluation.
