Description
Carolina Digestive Health Associates is looking for a FT Medical Assistant at its Concord location! The Primary Clinical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, Advanced Care Providers and Registered Nurses in the provision of gastrointestinal and hepatological care that is safe, comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally sensitive.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works as part of a team focused on the delivery of high-quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
- Ensures the safety of patients at all times.
- Promotes patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional friendly manner and responding promptly to patient requests for tasks, prescription refills, authorizations, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
- Completes pre-certifications for medications and authorizations.
- Update labs with current diagnosis code.
- Reports to provider the patient’s chief complaint, current symptoms and abnormal findings.
- Assists in the collection of specimens of body fluids for laboratory testing. Completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pick up.
- Documents medical information appropriately in EHR and communicates with appropriate team members in timely manner.
- Maintains patient medical charts with current data and past medical history to meet meaningful use requirements including closing tasks to demonstrate coordination of care.
- Manage patient portal and prescription refills.
- Responsible for requesting template changes for providers.
- Communicates with and educates patients about conditions, procedures, and plan of care.
- Ensure orders for procedures, laboratory and imaging are scheduled, conducted and results are directed to physician in timely manner.
- Understands breath tests, pill cam placements and other procedures as instructed by providers.
- Follows up with patients to ensure progression of plan of care and assess patient compliance with treatment. Conducts reminder calls to all patients as necessary.
- Answers phone calls and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or triages patient calls promptly according to protocol including sick calls.
- Schedules office and telehealth appointments and enters appropriate information into electronic scheduler.
- Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
- Upholds the CDHA mission by actively contributing to the achievement of organizational goals, supporting leadership, promoting unity and teamwork for the benefit of patients.
- Demonstrates a commitment to quality of care and actively participates in workplace improvement to maintain a patient service excellence environment.
- Adheres to all safety policies and industry standards related to infection control, patient confidentiality, and regulatory and accrediting body's requirements (i.e., HIPAA, OSHA, and AAAHC).
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.

Education/ and or Experience
- Graduate from accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior GI experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Great attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Specialized Knowledge Required
- Certified by one of the following National Organizations:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA),
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by National Healthcare Association (NHA), or American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Medical Technologist (AMT) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
