Wood is recruiting for a Design Team Lead with a Civil, Structural, & Architectural Engineer to join its Operations Americas business. This opportunity is onsite in Richmond, VA.

The Role

As the Design Team Lead you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals designing facility-based capital projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant at the Celanese Spruance Site in Richmond, Virginia.  The Design Team Lead will also coordinate with and support other Celanese sites as needed.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities 

  • Assign and manage weekly tasks for each team member.
  • Prioritize and coordinate multiple ongoing design projects.
  • Lead biweekly project update meetings with the Zytel organization.
  • Develop and coordinate project scopes of work to support MOC and capital funding requests.
  • Manage job tasks within the Wood organization and coordinate external resource needs.
  • Maintain the Zytel project database and ensure accurate documentation on the Zytel server.
  • Oversee updates to ProjectWise, the central repository for drawings, vendor data, and project documentation.
  • Organize and support pre-bid meetings, vendor site visits, and project cost estimation.
  • Assist with project funding requests, startup, commissioning, and final documentation.
  • Support infrastructure projects including civil/structural upgrades, HVAC improvements, elevator modernization, and fire protection enhancements.
  • Ensure compliance with Spruance site safety requirements.
  • Provide Civil / Structural / Architectural design and engineering expertise for both cost and capital projects.

Expected:

  • 10+ years of relevant industrial design experience including Civil / Structural / Architectural design experience.
  • Knowledge of chemical or related manufacturing facilities and integration of project work in these facilities.
  • Strong skills in 2D CAD drafting and design; MicroStation experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with ProjectWise document management system is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project coordination experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong safety champion who will lead the project in achieving zero incidents and injuries.
  • Self-motivated/Self-directed.
  • Able to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of gated work process for project management.
