Job Title: One-to-One Educational Aide
Reports To: Classroom Teacher / Special Education Teacher / Principal
Work Year: Aligned with the school calendar (10 months)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The One-to-One Educational Aide provides individualized support to a specific student under the direction of certified staff. The aide assists in implementing the student’s educational and behavioral plans, supports participation in classroom and school activities, and helps create a safe and positive learning environment that promotes independence and success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support the assigned student in accessing the general education curriculum and/or individualized education program (IEP) goals.
Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior support strategies as directed by the supervising teacher or special education team.
Provide direct assistance with academic tasks, organization, transitions, and social interactions.
Supervise and support the student during classroom instruction, specials, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
Assist the student with personal care needs (if applicable), such as mobility, toileting, feeding, or medical routines as trained and directed.
Collect observational data and report progress, challenges, or concerns to the supervising teacher.
Maintain confidentiality of student information and comply with all school and district policies.
Promote the student’s independence, encouraging appropriate self-help and social skills.
Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate’s degree or 48 college credits preferred.
Experience working with children, especially those with special needs or behavioral challenges, preferred.
Ability to follow directions, adapt to changing student needs, and maintain patience and professionalism.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Physical ability to support student needs (e.g., lifting, assisting with mobility, monitoring safety).
