The Tax Analyst is primarily responsible for managing tax compliance and projects, focusing heavily on pass-through tax laws and real estate methodologies. Key duties involve the preparation of federal and state pass-through tax returns and associated workpapers, identifying and resolving complex tax issues, and conducting research for strategic tax planning opportunities for the company’s real estate portfolio. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TASKS:

  • Prepare Federal and multi-state pass-through tax returns.
  • Planning and researching of federal and state income tax issues.
  • Structure and document transactions to maximize tax objectives.
  • Tax projections, audits and examination of taxable entities.
  • Stay current with new tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare estimated tax payments
    • Capitalization and Depreciation
      1. Have current working knowledge of tax depreciation methods and issues
      2. Review property expenditures to maximize tax benefits
      3. Work with accounting department for job closures from work in progress for tax benefit maximization
      4. Work with accounting department in maintaining depreciation system within book, state, federal and alternative minimum tax requirements.
      5. Knowledge of section 263A and ability to review calculations of capitalized interest.

 

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of 3 years public accounting or related experience
  • Current experience in pass-through, corporate and individual taxation, preferably with a focus in commercial real estate.  
  • Experience in individual, estate and trust taxation is a plus.
  • Critical and analytical thinking.  
  • Ability to identify and pursue alternative solutions.   
  • Able to organize complex facts or data into manageable form.
  • Proficient in Windows based environment (MS Word, Excel).   
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in software-based tax compliance systems.  
  • Very proficient in Excel.
  • Ability to present ideas and clearly communicate strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with good interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a positive outlook with ability to stay organized and efficient under pressure
  • Ability to be discrete and maintain confidentiality.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance is required.  
  • Graduate degree in taxation or accounting a definite plus.

 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIRED:

  • CPA certificate (or CPA Eligible).
  • Valid Driver License.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional travel may be needed.
