Job Summary

The Helix Plant Department Manager is responsible for overseeing operations within the Red Diamond automated Helix Plant, with a focus on the safe and efficient production of Helix Boosters-a TNT-free product used in various applications and sold to external customers. This role supports production, packaging, utilities, and personnel management, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all Helix Operations Team members.
  • Conduct performance management and regular one-on-one check-ins with operators.
  • Coordinate time-off requests in collaboration with the PETN Plant Manager.
  • Learn and support operational procedures across the Helix Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and chemical processing issues.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to apply best practices.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities including MOCs and SOP maintenance.
  • Serve as backup to the PETN Plant Manager when needed.
  • Update and improve operating procedures and training programs.
  • Lead incident investigations and compile detailed reports.
  • Report SHES and production KPIs for the Helix Plant.
  • Drive long-term improvements in safety, efficiency, and operability.
  • Champion Pre-Startup Safety Reviews and validate process changes.
  • Maintain process safety documentation (e.g., P&IDs, flow diagrams, mass balances).
  • Participate in PHAs and conduct risk assessments.
  • Manage or assist with small to medium capital projects.
  • Analyze production data and support experimental trials.
  • Develop new methods for data collection and management.
  • Oversee inventory management for the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Collaborate with the quality department on lab and product quality needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-year degree; B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel (including VBA), PowerPoint, and analytical/statistical tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing setting, including climbing stairs and ladders.
